WD TV Play Media Player

Am also contemplating getting one.
The reviews are all very good.

Haha ;) Okay "may be" going over in June. Pretty sure having a tonne of these things will put me at #1 spot at Customs!

So maybe do a maximum of 3 only - well make that 2 now (seeing it was my idea) and then minus your one so, if you keen, you can take one more order! Let the battle begin!

Bought one of these recently and I'm having issues with it picking up a signal through the HDMI port.
Anyone else having issues with the HDMI port? Going to be returning it.

Mine arrived this morning, been tinkering.

All I can say is it's an awesome device:
Has chewed through everything I have thrown at it, HD 1080p 55Gb Blu Ray no problem.
Avi home videos no issue.
Streaming HD 6Gb mkv over Wireless N network share no issue.
Can stream to it with ipad 2
For R999 not bad at all.
2.5 usb3 1TB drive powered up and playing.
3TB usb3 Seagate no issues.
2TB usb 2 connected directly, playing 50GB+ mkv's - no issue or stutter at all.
Thing is tiny as well.

Are you guys referring to the WD TV Play and not the WD TV Live? Where did you get it if is indeed the Play?

WD TV Live, not the play version.

Everything works fine EXCEPT I get no DTS on my mkv's, only stereo.
HDMI with passthrough, there are options for DTS reciever, Dolby, Multi channel PCM.
Ticked all of them, tried ticking one at a time etc but no luck.

Watched UP (Blu Ray mkv 44Gb) last night with my kid, didnt really notice that DTS was missing, still sounded awesome.

Will test tonight when I get my full 3TB collection running.

Reason I asked is because this is a thread about the Play version ;)

Important: WD does not support DTS technology on the original WD TV HD Media Player (Gen 1) or the WD TV Mini Media Player. However the WD TV Live Hub Media Center, WD TV Live Streaming Media Player, WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player, WD TV Live (WDBAAx0000NBK) HD Media Player and WD TV HD Media Player (Gen 2) will play DTS audio in 2 channels without the need for an audio receiver that can decode the codec. While the original WD TV HD Media Player (Gen 1) does allow for DTS passthrough to an audio receiver, this feature is unsupported by WD and technical support cannot assist if you are unable to get this function to work.

So it does DTS but only in 2 channels, thought it would let the reciever sort it out.

That's weird, I could have sworn my Live plays DTS on all channels to the receiver? I'll have to confirm tonight.

If I choose DTS under Audio settings no sound comes out at all.
Have a Sony Receiver that can play everything except True HD.
also going to try files from here tonight. http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/
