Hi Guys

Gonna do some painting soon. I need to buy paint for the roof and the protection coat for any leaks.

I also need paint for the outside walls of the house.
Where can i buy quality paint in Cape Town. I would appreciate specials too.

I think the place is called LP Paints in Woodstock. They are quite cheap.

For leak protection, you can buy Rainkote.

Here's a tip I learned when I retired to the WCape from Jhb ... and for years in Jhb I spent a fortune on expensive products like "weatherguard", "wall n All", "double velvet" and the like.

Buy the cheaper Plascon 'Roofseal' ( http://www.autospec.co.za/productme...ducts/waterproofing/plasconroofsealwrs1-5.pdf ) for much less that the so-called 'superior' PVA paints.

This entire town only buys plain white Plascon 'roofseal', and then adds the required colour tint, to paint exterior, & interior, plastered walls. It has excellent coverage, and dries to a smooth matt finish

It's a PVA paint, and is as good, if not better, than all the fancy-named brands. It's designed for roof painting, and I figure that a any paint cannot get more severe exposure to weather than up on a roof.

The only tiny negative is that it is not one of those modern low-odour paints, so a newly painted inside room may smell of wet paint until it dries.

I have no, and have never had any, involvement with any paint manufacturer or supplier. I'm just sorry I only learned of that product 2 years ago when I left Jhb to retire in a small WC Town

So the secret is out.....

Well done Atomcrusher!:D

Our family business has been using Plascon Roofseal for around 4 years now and i can even add that the paint is better then the best premium paint for exterior walls.
Not a single complaint in the over 200 homes our company has used this product on.

Its a nice sheen finish, highly washable, dirt doesn't stick to the walls and it contains anti-fungal, which inhibits moss growth.
As atom said they do mix Roofseals colours up, but not to very dark colours, they have a range of preset colours for that.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say it is superior even to Plascon Wall and All, Double Velvet etc.....

And its incredibly cheap around R650 for 20l.

Plascon have released a product similar to Roofseal called Wallseal, and the only difference is the lack of anti fungal, and it smells like a good PVA and is around R200 more per 20l.

I would recommend that product for interior walls.

As for raincoat, stay the hell away from that product, its a terribly poor product, for a roof leaks i recommend the Flash Harry brand of products for the DIY enthusiast, otherwise we use flashband aluminum tar strips, then a good scrub of all the moss on the roof via wire brush or high pressure hose, and 2 good coats of Roofseal.

Good luck.;)

Thanks, I think I may use this advice too! :)

Interesting advice regarding the RoofSeal guys....

Gonna be painting the exterior of my house soon enough...

One thing to consider: Paintcor offers free onsite consulting for any paintjob. They will come out, scan your existing wall color (if you need to match it) and also give you advice regarding waterproofing and problem areas. They will then furnish you a quote and will deliver. Their prices were reasonable and competitive.

Intriguing..

Pity they don't have an outlet in Durban that would provide such a service.

I went looking for Plascon Roofseal today but they only had Plascon NuRoof. What is the difference between these two products? Also I see makro has 5l of Roofseal for R250 making it about R1000 for 20l not R600 as mentioned above.

NuRoof is Plascon's premium roof paint, and Roofseal is their 'budget' brand.

Having said that Roofseal is just as good as NuRoof and the only difference i could see was the smell of the paint and a slightly thicker constancy.

Roofseal has a strong Jeyes fluid smell(the anti-fungal gives it that odor).
Roofseal is a better product though, as its far cheaper, spreads further and has strong anti-fungal inhibiter's.

On a side note, Plascon has launched a paint called Wallseal, which is identical to Roofseal but without the anti fungal properties, and its used a waterproof barrier.

Having been to my Makro Ottery this past Sunday, Roofseal was R699 per 20l (white) and R899 per 20l for a pastel base(used for tinting the paint).

According to the Plascon website Roofseal is only available in 1l and 5l while NuRoof is available in 5l and 20l? As I said Makro has a price of R250 for 5l of Roofseal on their website.

Its B.S.

I am a contractor and use Roofseal by the 20L bucket!
You cannot get 20L of Roofseal in any other colour then white.
The 1L and 5L you can buy the standard Red, Green ETC.

Call Makro, Jacks Paint or Build It and ask for the price of a 20L bucket of Roofseal.
The R899 price is including tinting of a 20L Roofseal.

I know Plascon isn't happy with Roofseal's success because people are not buying NuRoof.
It could be that they are trying to deter people from buying 20L Roofseal.

Ahh, must be the price for the colours they are advertising. I need white, green and grey. I wanted to mix the white and grey to get an off- white for the outside walls. Might try mix 5l grey with 20l white to get the desired result.

Thanks for the input.
