Hi all.

Has anyone been able to get this working: Setting Up UnoDNS on Your LG SmartTV

I have finally got Unotelly and Netflix up and running on my HP N40L but from what I have read, people say the quality is quite bad going through PC? So I tried to get the Netflix app on my LG Smart TV, but just can't seem to get it to work.

I have changed the DNS on the TV, but when I go select my Smart TV country, I only have African countries in the list. I also created an american account for LG apps but when I try and sign in on the TV, it tells me wrong username or password but when I log in on my PC, it works perfectly (I still couldn't see the Netflix app tho but will have a proper look later).

Has anyone gotten this to work? If not, anyone got any other tips for me? Really want to try out Netflix but don't want to pay if the quality is not going to be the best.

Thanks.

Hope there is a workaround but i just found this and it doesn't look good for native Netflix support on LG TVs in S.A.

When I purchased my tv (LG 47LW6500) and before hooking it up to wireless I had seen the hulu app. After connecting to my network (using LG wireless dongle) i am no longer able to see the hulu app. The country settings say South Africa. After changing the DNS using the directions on the site I am still unable to see the hulu and netflix app. The DNS is working fine on Apple TV and my iPad but it is not working at all on my LG Smart TV. The Smart TV country settings only has two options: South Africa, or OTHERS. I have tried changing it to Others but still do not see the apps I would like.

Then an answer

Hello Nadia,

Using our DNS on a LG TV will only show US apps if the TV is a US model. LG TV is made for specific countries and only show apps that are specific to the country. Most likely you will only see US apps if you have a US model and are using our DNS to access the apps. You can try to enter our DNS in the TV and then do a factory reset or reboot, whatever is the option to do, and if the US apps appear after this you are in luck. But, most likely this isn't going to work. We aren't able to make the apps appear when it's not a US model. I really can't explain why you were initially able to see the hulu app as I don't know how this was possible.

Let me know if I can assist you in any other way.

Unblock-US also a DNS provider support forum

A solution mentioned further down in that thread is to stream from your PC/Laptop onto the TV.

As for the quality, most users here haven't complained. I did read however that the app on the PS3 shows higher quality but this may have been an exclusive feature early on and is supported on PCs but i would love to know more :p.

Ahhh  I suppose I will stop trying then and try see what the quality is like from Plex.

Hi there, anybody in Jhb northern suburbs that can help me set this up. Please pm me your cost etc thanks

Netflix quality is dependent on your device/app.

For guaranteed HD in Netflix (on at least a 4mb line), get yourself a WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (for about R1000)

Its the only device in my house that streams Netflix in HD :D

(Hulu does 720p no problems on all my other devices)

I'm thinking of doing a factory reset, has anyone got the netflix app after a reset?

I have both Netflix and Hulu working perfectly on my Samsung Smart TV by using Unotelly DNS entries on my router. I didn't change any region info. on my tv. Maybe give that a try.

I am already using that on the apple tv, it seems imposible to get those apps on the lg smart tv's.

There you have it, LG basically saying, 'buy Samsung'!

I had to input a "cheat code" on my samsung for it to unlock the US apps... even with UnoDNS.

I have a south African tv, I could only select south Africa or Algeria.

Hi, I just bought a LG 50LA6210 on offer. All is working well except that I can not change my country to anything outside of Africa and therefore do not have NETLFIX or HULU to chosse from from my smart settings.

I have entered the DNS on my router and all connected devices work.

Anyone has an idea whether LG allows to change the country?

Thanks

I can connect to it through my WD Live SMP.

I downloaded the software update file of another country from the lg website. Try and go to one of the international lg sites. You put the file on USB disk and it updates when the screen 'boots' up

Hi,

I have checked the LG site. Which Firmware did you use? What model is the equivalant to the 6210. Most importantly, did it work for you? As far as Ican tell from my research on the Web there does not seem to be a way to get the LG to work with any DNS service in order to change the region.

Shame...I will then have to continue to use the WD SMP live to connect to Netflix and Hulu, which I actually tried to avoid.

Hi imranpanji, What model TV do you have?
I would like to do it to my TV but I'm too scared it will brick it

Really need some help

Has anybody got Netflix on their SA TV yet?

Has anybody successfully updated the TV region to US via a firmware update?

Also, I can't find the Plex app - how would one go about streaming your own videos from PC to the TV?

There's a code you put in on the remote... should narrow down your googling.

Gave up on this. Got myself a Fire TV and stopped loosing my time with this. As far as I can see there is no solution to this. I have got a 2013 model and tried the service manual via universal remote but all region options are greyed out.

So no luck. I would have expected that by now there was a solution, but haven't found anyrhing on the net.
