Zero TV homes

Some people have had it with TV. They’ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don’t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They’re tired of $100-plus monthly bills.

Zero TV in my home.
I sold my TV more than a year ago and notified SABC.
I'm now receiving threatening sms's from some attorney demanding payment.

Heard that story very often.

A few years ago an SABC license inspector showed up at home, demanding to see my "TV license". Told him I didn't have one. He demanded to look through my house to see if I'm lying. I told him to come back with a search warrant. When he got stroppy I just opened the security gate and let my boerboel help him out the main gate. Lo and behold he arrived back with the SAP a day later when only the domestic was at home. She refused them entrance. Never heard from the clowns again.

Cancelled DSTV three months ago and have not missed it one bit.

The only things connected to my TV is my HDD and my PlayStation. No DSTV, no Antennae. Still have to pay the F****ing TV license though :(

Wow, people watching streaming shows on their cellphones on that side of the pond... how long before that's practical and affordable here?

I don't see the point with moaning about TV licenses. R250 per year is chump change compared to R700 pm for DSTV and R500 pm for decent ADSL. I'll support the SABC because I enjoy 5FM.

It's total BS! Why should I pay a yearly license fee because I own a TV even though I do not use it to watch their channels? R250 pa is not a lot of money but it's the principle of the matter. And [-]Metro[/-] 5FM either (Radio stations can source the money from ads they air).

You could get the receiver removed from the TV and stop paying your license fees.

I agree that it is bs but a license is a license. Like for a car or gun. Blame the BBC for that, the SABC is/was based on their model.

And yes it is redundant because they "make money" off advertising from all their media. But they are still broke :p

I could. Never thought of that. Waaaaaay too much effort thought. Much easier just to stop complaining about the R250 pa :p

...not that I will.

DSTV cancelled as of this month.

Will buy the kiddies DVD's each month rather. Signing up for ADSL.
