Eskom warns electricity users to switch off during peak times

Between 5-9.... so... the time I do my cooking, water heating, tv watching, cleaning... sounds good, no probs eskom fellas!!!

Ag shame, you worried about your precious bonuses?

We cannot switch our geyser off as it's a solar unit. The only time we switch it on, is when the day was cloudy/rainy and the water is not warm enough. And then only for one hour.

So cut us some slack willya?

How about no, I have made all the cuts that I can, any more and I will have to start using candles.

o ffs, i cut where i can cut, how about cutting your fat bonus and salary?

702 was talking about it earlier - more or less said the same thing. For families in particular it IS main usage time because they have dinner to make, kids bath, etc. So what exactly are we supposed to do? Do it all after 9pm? It's just plain stupidity.

I'm sorry, but isn't Eskom by law required to supply adequate power in this country? I hope people start suing them this winter if it gets bad.

I'm mean we're not talking about the supply of skittles here. If they are not accountable then this gov is just a bunch of jokers.

:wtf: What has Telkom got to do with power? :wtf: :p

Only in SA when you overpay for a service and still have to abide by rules and guidelines of the provider.

People don't use more during this time to irritate you Eskom, they use more because it's the time when people come home from work.

uhm no.. i use electricity as i see fit(geyser off except for morning 2 hrs anyway) because like e-toll's user pay principal.. i use i pay. if Eskom wants to tell me when to use it too then they need to give me a nice discount for doing so :p

Exactly!! However, Eskom gives away power to the BHP Aluminium smelters below cost price, at only a small fraction of the cost that we have to pay. They never had any clauses concerning escalation, or time of use, in their LONG term contracts, but had the audacity to pay themselves huge bonuses at the time they signed these contracts!!

If they don't care, why should we care?

But you do get a discount! If you cut down on your power consumption then you pay them less. You see, they've thought of everything!

Except that the power price increases kinda make up for anything you save.... So essentially you're paying more and using less! :-D

I have enough blankets to keep me warm at night time. I'll get home early enough to make my family a warm meal and drink at least 2 cups of coffee before you cut the power. I can wait 'till morning to make me another warm cup of coffee. Hope others can do this as well you spiteful c*nts!

hmm....I pretty pissed about this too, but this still leaves the immediate problem unsolved. Unless I'm eye-balling those numbers wrong, this means certain & regular rolling blackouts.

I feel their request to switch off the geysers during peak is pretty reasonable. I've been doing this via timer for the last year & its had literally zero negative side-effects. (Runs an hour at 3 AM). Modern geysers hold temp for 48hrs+ so it doesn't matter when you run it really.

Cool info sheet:

the electricity gestapo came round to all the flats in our building and installed timers. initially i thought we could now control the geyser properly. turns out it has preset programming with 6-8am and pm being always off. we only reach home at 6pm, then we cook and clean and 8pm is our bath run.

maybe if eskom's management got off their overpaid fat arses and stopped stealing money, then maybe they will have money to generate electricity.
