Cell C tackles 8ta over lowest call rate claim

only marketers and bean counters think they are smarter and we normal folks cannot see smokes and mirrors gimmicks . . has anyone thought about MTN's promotion of recharging by R10 or more and receive 20% is equal to R1 PER MINUTE on their new R1,20 per second price plan . . . think of cell c?;)

Last time I checked, 8ta was R1,90 per minute (coming down to 95c per minute - because when you load airtime you get a cheaper call rate for a few days). Then the call rate goes up.

Whereas CellC, has 99c per minute and when you load airtime you get additional bonuses, the 99c does not go up or down as 8ta does.

It's rubbish that people are so nitpicky and that your lower call rate is only valid for a few days, so lets take action against CellC which is actually cheaper on calls - load airtime, make a call a week later and CellC is cheaper than 8ta.

We really need call rates to not be dependent on when you loaded airtime or what time of day it is or what day of the week it is. Make it simple! CellC has done right here, 8ta is complicating matters (which sadly is normal).

Cell C is the cheapest, no matter how they juggle the numbers. They were right to complain.

We need plain and simple rates.
Maybe one day you will need an app to calculate what a call will cost you. Take day, time of day, state of the moon, weather conditions, rand exchange rate, CSP last profit margin, GPS location. Stick it all in a formula that will confuse Albert Einstein and then come up with an amount.
By that time I will have forgotten who I wanted to phone.

With Cell C, I just know it's 99c per minute.

8ta argued that its commercial merely drew attention to the fact that it was possible to make a call for 95c per minute on 8ta, and that it was up to the customer to find out how this can be done

And what are commercials for?

Well, on Cell C I can get FREE calls just for recharging my prepaid account....

And what are commercials for?

This is what the complaint is about. The advert simply claims you pay 95 cents per minute on 8ta but does tell the customer that it would be subject to certain conditions, such as when you load the airtime and make the call.

The advert is misleading the public into believing it it a flat rate and then the customer would need to find out for themselves what the conditions are in order to get those special prices.

Advertising like that should be banned

Cellular companies are all a rip-off - these mud slinging issues of who is, and who is not are pure f&^*($#%^&g childishness. In the end they still empty your pocket for their lousy deals.

This is nothing but ambush advertising by 8ta. Cell C had every right to complain because the advertisement is misleading and deceitful. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth and I for one will be reluctant to do business with 8ta. Integrity is important for me.

I have to correct myself: Not ambush advertising but plain false advertising. Ambush advertising is something different. Thanks Wikipedia.
