Cell C’s massive MVNO plans

I think in an ideal world there would be a limited number of access spectrum networks, while a lot of virtual network operators above it. This is typically the best way with the least issues such as too many base stations, under utilization of spectrum, etc but lets face it.. it will never work in SA as ICASA will be useless to to get wholesale costs regulated without the likes of the major operators making a huge profit with the MVNO making little to keep interested. Heck they can't even do that with the LLU & Telkom, where will they ever be in a position to do so for mobile lol.

ICASA spokesperson Paseka Maleka told City Press that “Orange wants regulated access to South African operator’s network infrastructure, something ICASA has not yet considered.”

“As and when the need and resources are identified, the authority will consider future regulatory interventions with the goal of enhancing social welfare,” said Maleka.

In essence, what Maleka means, is that he is waiting for Orange to deposit money into Maleka's offshore pension scheme before he does anything.

I can say their data network isn't handling it in Dbn, ported back to VC, couldn't take it anymore.

+1 for me in Midrand. Voice quality is horrible, get kicked off network a couple of times a day, if you want to dial out I had to dial up to about 3 times, if people wanted to reach me they will mostly be kicked to voicemail.

CellC, your network is overloaded. Good luck overloading it some more!

In the meantime I ported to vodacon... End of all my problems! (people actually commented that they can hear me much clearer now!)

I am sure the extra income could help improve things, surely they are not out of spectrum yet??

iirc they are sitting with some prime spectrum.... LTE springs to mind!

So it's not spectrum I'm asking about, rather whether their network infrastructure is sufficient at this stage.

.... they could always buy Neotel and their infrastructure ... O wait CDMA

I think FNB have the money to help Cell-C to bring their network up to par, so for me it's not a question of "can Cell-C's network handle it", but a question of "how good will the network be after some input from FNB and other parties".......just my feeling. People tend to look at it "As is" and not see the growth possibilities.
