Warning: new SA bank notes are defective

Great we outsource everything now even the printing of our money.

how much kickbacks do this politician who setup the deal with the Swedish company get?
 
My local BP garage said they had received some counterfeit R50 notes that even flouresced when put under an ultra-violet light. This was in Feb.
 
And here I'm wondering why on earth they didn't go with Polymer notes...

How were they found to be fake then? Even when depositing notes at the bank, tellers check them under uv light. That and the watermark seem to be the most used features. You need a magnifying glass to check for micro lettering.
 
Yep,and we are told that the new ID cards will be..tamper proof?My foot.

Usually the paper gives it away.

If you spend a couple hours counting cash & then suddenly one of them is printed on paper thats slightly different you do notice it. You don't even need to look at it - the paper thickness is usually slightly off too so it bends differently as you flip through a stack of notes.

I didn't think that pulling the strips out were a major issue, you could do that, even to old (1992) series notes. These new notes even have the value of the note in the strip. If someone can print notes with the correct UV markers, that is quite scary though.

This being Africa it be ghost shifts for all we know.

Its likely a cartels / gang anyway and no laughable UV markers are going to stop them. e.g. The cocaine cartels created GM cocaine. Modifying DNA...I dare say they can manage a UV marker too.

Just an example of course...not saying the south-american cartels are here.
