Does anyone think they've got a rough idea as to what the Leap Motion will cost when it's for sale here? When it's released later this month, the retail price abroad is as follows:

US: $80 (in-store)
UK: £70 (amazon.co.uk)

Obviously I'm not after an exact amount, but just a rough figure based on your experience with tech-related prices in SA vs overseas. The reason I ask is due to my Leap pre-order:

I ordered early last year, and the total (Leap + shipping + VAT) comes to $100 = R900 to R1000. I'm having a hard time believing a peripheral such as this will be priced higher than R1000, and so the pre-order just doesn't make sense any more. If the price is going to be very similar it makes more sense to cancel the order, wait a few weeks & buy it locally and also have the benefit of being able to return it easily should there be a fault. But maybe it will be priced well over R1000.

Appreciate any insight.

I cancelled my preorder.
I think I'm about to cancel too. Great device, but my dealings with Leap Motion (via their forum) have been disappointing, and there's been absolutely no benefit to pre-ordering. I figured if they retail in SA for R1300+ then cool - I'm saving R300+, but I can't see it being that expensive.

Hmmm...no-one else then? If you had to ballpark a figure? Sitting on the fence here trying to decide whether to cancel or not :p.

I preordered just over a month ago and I'm gonna just get it when its shipped, knowing SA the device might only come here sometime next year maybe and then prices in SA are always almost double what you pay overseas, companies still have to import it then they mark it up an extra 50%, id rather have it now at this price than pay more when they set a specific import duty on it because its sold in SA

Yeah I'm not sure if they're gonna cancel my order or not - feedback from them has been incredibly slow these past few days. I'm at the point now where I don't really care if it's cancelled or not. Their PR has been pretty bad and I don't much like the way I'm paying $100 for a $70 device...but, whatever - I should have acted sooner rather than go back & forth over the issue.
