South African science website outdated since 2008

Why am I not surprised?
Because it falls under a Government department, i.e. the Department of Science and Technology. They found lots of better projects, e.g. "fill pockets" for the R16-million grant.

Maybe some bright sparks on MyBB could do the job for them, and save 95% of that money

Unsurprisign. Who cares, rpm? All ANC is sorrupted and unmaintained. Wow, even Zadna, despite not affiliation (apperantly) with ANC has a stupid website. Wich explains why they are stupid enough to give us .co.za instead of .za like good stupids.

Then again, it's probably not enough moola.

Seems our government developers charge 100m for new wp sites these days

and the beloved gov pay so gladly because creating a website it is hard and magical.

Well any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. Can't remember who said that but internetz are way too advanced for cadres...

ANC cant organize anything :( We need a change of power so we can have a government that works for us, instead of against us.

Don't you get it?
Don't you understand why you always see RXX Million spent on these things?

It's not about finding a good designer, it's about finding a person who is going to hand back half of the money under the table.

In the end the website doesn't matter at all, it's just an excuse to funnel money. Like money laundering.

god I'm stupid!

A shadow opposition ministry should setup a freely hosted science website to show how much more can be achieved with no funds. Oh wait, what am I talking about, who cares.

Why r we even surprised? :wtf:

It's usually the general behaviour now, too "thrifty" to spend on ICT services, but come fleet contracts, only the best for our beloved gov employees (when was the last time you heard a gov employee complain about receiving a top of the line Mercedes Benz).

Plus as someone said above, it's not about the end product anymore, if it doesn't make sense to spend all this money with at least 60% kick backs to someone why bother... It's not like people use these websites :D

Douglas Adams afaik.

Arthur C Clarke

Clarke's Three Laws are three "laws" of prediction formulated by the British writer Arthur C. Clarke. They are:

When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

No surprise, that money's been spent on BMW's, cases of Chivas Regal, Black Label and upmarket mansions in Sandton already. Hell, I wonder if some of it was sent Malema's way to get his arse out the SARS dwang..
