What is the ice cream maker being used on masterchef.
All the ones I have seen, make a stupid little amount and not worth the bother.

There's no decent ice cream makers under 10K. There must be plenty of good Chinese ones at great prices -I am just waiting for someone to import them. Anyone know how much the Taylormade ones are?
I have been waiting for ages. I want to experiment so badly but I'm not paying for the under 500g Junk flogged on the market now.
I want commercial quality at affordable prices.
I am sure some entrepreneur will bring them in soon.

Jip now all we need is an importer. I think we can comfortably forget the brand names. The Chinese ones are just as good
and I suppose one could always have a fancy sticker made with a fancy Italian name

Demo units are still averaging $1000 without shipping and taxes. :(

Yip would be nice to have - wonder what their consumption is like on electricity?

If I were to really want one in my kitchen/entertainment area - R4k-R5k would have me feeling comfortable with the indulgence :p :D

Sounds Lekker except if one can't be arrsed to make the freeze mix (soft serve mix) one would have to plot a way to nab one of BK's mixes or even steers. McD's is Schit. Chalk and salt. Needs two people one lookout, one snatch and run :D

Has anyone tried the Nemox Gelatissimo?
They retail for just under R5000 and make 1.7 litres at a time.

See here

I have an Elegance machine from Hirsches. It makes 1.5l,, and works really well.
My sister has the Krupps machine, and the downside is you have to freeze the bowl before you can make icecream, as it doesnt contain a refrigeration unit.

Fairlady has done a comparison on all the available ice cream machines - http://testhouse.fairlady.com/review/elegance-p2826/

How much ice cream do you need to make at any one time?

Years ago I bought a inexpensive Disney branded one for the kids and it makes decent ice cream. As for not being worth the bother you just mix the ingredients, pour them in, and it makes the ice cream. The yield is about the same as one of those woolworths tubs.

Stingy B-tard. One Tub? We want a machine that you can flip on the handles and the soft serves fills a kiddies plastic swimming pool.
