need some advice here.

I'm looking to buy a laptop for work/home.

The 2 options I have been looking at are these....

HP Probook 4540s
Asus Ultrabook K56CA-Xo192P

Main difference is HP intel Ivybridge Core i5-3230M and Asus intel ivybridge Core i5-3317U, otherwise specs are roughly similar. I wouldn't mind a Acer but I don't have any contacts with them.

Prices are roughly R7500 at cost...

Any advice ?

Before considering purchasing a bidorbuy/secondhand machine first look very carefully at the buyer feedback. There are several Bidorbuy sellers who seem to sell a number of competitively priced machines. Take a look at some of their other items as well to see what else is available. Ask about the remaining warranty.

Few other machines ...

Even cheaper 4540S ...

Hi There,
Bid or buy is a great source of secondhand equipment.
If you are going the new route then you also need to consider who is offering what warranty. HP and Dell both offer next business day on-site service which can be a real plus.
I would not be going to the shopping malls though other than to get ideas of what is out there and how it looks feels and also weighs.

Regards

I don't know about the Asus but the HP 4530 and more recently 4540 have been our standard laptops at work for the last 2 years and they've been pretty good value. The build quality is really good.

EDIT: also the HP has pretty good audio.

Nothing massive, a bit more power efficient, but it's more about future-proofing to a degree, should last you just that little bit longer.

Id say 4540s we got like 10 of them for work and they great im not really sure about asus but ja. I'm currently using a 4530s and i am looking to upgrade to a 4540s i5 and the next business day on-site service its an advantage.

Thanks guys.... this helped a lot.

I ended up buying an HP4540s for a 45% saving off bidorbuy. Demo model with valid warranty. I should be able to upgrade to a 3 year extended and grab another 4GB ram from some suppliers. I was looking originally at around 9k with the RAM and Warranty on a new item.
