Standard Bank’s excellent data centre in Midrand bleeding money

been inside there, and magnificent it is indeed

fnb should buy it . . . with all the bank charges i'm sure they can afford it

maybe DR?
Or maybe just desks and people

They run their global operations from Jhb central. They have a smaller DC there but obviously the bulk of their core systems sit at the Midrand site.

I'm not surprised. I heard some scary unverified stories that standard bank is not very good at commercial governance. Expat Consultants walking out of the county with bags full of cash and not even paying tax....(wake up SARS)

Where there's smoke......

I know it's nice having your own Data Center, But why not just use MTN, IS or SAIX. I mean for the price I am sure it would have costed a lot less.....

Coz

However, security requirements related to a banking data centre put a spanner in the works.

The greedy IT manager want to gurantee his Job for life. Why are other banks leasing space within other data centres?

It seems pretty obvious that any IT related operation within a company will be an overhead, and will not make money for the company as a stand-alone business. Surely they would have done their sums before the project started? If they wanted to lease out services to make money, the security would have been provisioned for in the design.

Did they build first and then tried to figure later what they would use it for:confused: And this is place that's supposed to run money matters, and be frugal at it.

Exactly, this is an international corporate, some planning must have gone into this.
