Sony Xperia Z1: South African launch date announced

Been waiting for this one, will be ordering 3 to replace a iPhone4, 3GS and an old Desire HD.

If its anything like the z ultra's triluminous display then it should be quite good,great to see Sony placing more realistic announcement to launch windows instead of announcing something then launching it 8 months later when its outdated.

This should whack a big portion of potential htc one and galaxy s4 buyers.Looks good, especially with that killer camera and water resistance.

Yes the screen is the same as in the Z Ultra so an improvement over the Z.

If anybody is interested in ordering a Z1 from the UK and you are in the Cape Town area then PM me. I'm going to be ordering 2 x Z Tablets, 3 x Z1's, Allienware 17 laptop, a NAS and some other things as soon as the Z1 is available for order.

I'm ordering as I buy my phones cash and if its only being released here in October then it will mean that I will most probably only be able to buy one around December.

Not sure on the Z1. All I have thus far seen on the Z1 is estimates of around 500 pounds which is around R8,000. Guess it will come in for around R8,500/9,000.

I know you can get the Xperia Z through Orange for R6,900 which includes customs etc.
 
I see the Xperia Z1 is available on pre-order from Unlocked-Mobiles in the UK. It will start shipping around the 16th of this month. Launch date for SA is only mid October and I guess one will battle to get one to buy for cash as they tend to keep them for contract sales.

I guess one will be paying the VAT exclusive price of 470 pounds (Inclusive price is 565 pounds). Shipping is 50 pounds for international shipping via UPS/ FEDEX Delivery (3 Day service).

At current exchange rates that is then either R7,400 (Excl. VAT) or R8,900 (Incl VAT). Not sure about customs etc. when it lands this side. I'm planning on ordering 3 of them next week. If you are in the Cape Town area and you would like to add another to the order then drop me a message.

EDIT: Just placed a dummy order to get pricing. Total for the three phones with shipping (3 day courier) is 1,463 pounds so about R23,000 or about R7,655 per phone.

Another Edit: Just emailed them to check on what model numbers they will be stocking. For SA we require the C6603 model in order to handle our LTE bands. The C6603 supports LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

And Another Edit: Just checked, there are no duties payable but VAT is payable on the order when it lands here.
