Auditors are meant to be independent and unbiased. Clearly there are concerns that this person's strong and outspoken opinions prevent them from that. It's also not very professional behaviour, and an auditor-general should be setting an example.
 
I don't think I feel comfortable with the knowledge that there could be naked pictures of auditors out there on the Internet.

Oh please. He had an opinion. Whether he airs it on Facebook or not, he'd still have an opinion. This is ridiculous...

I was also referring to the sexually suggestive cartoons and pictures of half-naked women, but it's not okay for someone who's job revolves around being unbiased to be vocal about their political views. It's all just very unprofessional.

Professional ethics is an actual thing for people in a profession. Any professional should understand why this person won't be considered for auditor-general. I'm using 'professional' in the correct sense of the word btw, not just anyone who works and proclaims themselves to be proficient.

Yes, I've had to study auditing worked with auditors and also have auditor friends.

They have actual personalities and opinions and somehow manage to do a proper job.

No one is saying that they can't have personalities and opinions, rather that they just need to conduct themselves professionally at all times. Perceived independence and lack of bias is as important as actual independence and lack of bias.

Wtf. You people are obviously totally unfamiliar with the behavior expected of professionals. It doesn't matter whether you're in government or not, sexually suggestive cartoons, inappropriate images and heavily biased political diatribes are unprofessional.
 
Well nobody can keep up the professional thing 24/7. A bit better judgement would not be too much to ask though.

Professionals are most certainly expected to act professionally at all times, or at least appear professional at all times. In this guy's case, I think the fact that he has shown how biased he is has cooked his goose.

What are you failing to understand? No one cares what you do in your own home if it wouldn't cause a public scandal if it became public knowledge. I've already stressed that it's all about perceived professional behavior as much as it is actual professional behaviour.

And you can't be a professional unless you're registered with a professional body. Even then, you don't get professional teachers, plumbers etc. Accountants, psychologists, doctors, dentists, pharmacists etc. are professionals.

Unprofessional conduct would get a professional expelled from their profession, so there are countless people in SA capable of suitable conduct. This prospective auditor-general has shown that he is not one such person.
 
Bryn is actually spot on. The usual suspects (self appointed know it alls) who wouldn't know a code of ethics or professional behavior if it bit them in the ass are simply too stupid to understand the concept and the consequences of un-professional behaviour (or even the perception of such behaviour)
