The decomposing body of a man has been found in the boot of a car at Montecasino in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Monday.

"It was found [on Sunday] around 1pm by security guards on patrol. They were drawn [to investigate] by the smell coming out of the car," Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.

Police were called and they opened the car's boot, where the decomposing body was found.

A check on the car's registration number showed that the car had not been reported stolen.

The owner of the car would be interviewed, and no arrests had been made by 9am on Monday. Police were investigating a case of murder.

A post-mortem examination would show the cause of death.

Closed-circuit television footage from the casino would be used in the investigation, Dlamini said.

My guess is the owner of the vehicle is the body in the boot...
 
If I remember correctly this isn't the first time. Not sure if it was Monte Casino last time but I recall a similar incident (few years ago) where a body was found in the boot of a car at a casino.
 
If the person in the boot had any form of identity on his body, they would have known it was the owner of the vehicle. If not, fingerprints will be taken at the morgue and it could take up to 3 days before they get any results (if information is available on the fingerprints on the SAPS systems or at CRC). If no information is available at the SAPS, fingerprints will be sent to Home Affairs. Results could take up to 7 days. So, it could still well be the owner of the vehicle, perhaps not.

You think it could be a mob related thing? Maybe someone borrowed money from the wrong people and failed to pay their gambling debts off. Maybe a message to others... since it happened more than once.

Considering the amount of drug-trafficking and prostitution going on at Monte, this is not really a surprise

Realistically, how many people would not have loved ones/employers/friends who would realise that they and/or their car = missing?
