29c per minute Sim-Sonke roaming on MTN explained

Can one take advantage of the free minutes if roaming on MTN. Yes or No

Yes it does work.... I just confirmed it. Bought the R5 unlimited sim sonke to sim sonke call option and it was free to call even though both sim's was forced to roam on MTN.

This is a sweet deal. My girlfriend and I are due for contract expiry/renewal/upgrade from Vodacom in the next few months. We both have Samsung Ace's (on TopUp135) which are great little phones, but I am outgrowing its limits (had to use a modified CM7 rom with sd-ext on our phones to bypass the 150MB internal memory issue), my gf just want a new phone and she trusts me in sorting out our telecoms. I am looking into getting the Sony Xperia C, which is a high-mid dual sim phone from Cell C (about R180 pm). I will then get the Sim Sonke for me and my gf. She will maybe get the Sony Xperia E (she likes the 3" screens more than 5"), also dual sim (About R80pm). Cell C will in fact be our outside receiving network (ported numbers) and we will use Sim-Sonke to stay in touch with each other on the cheap (More than 60% of our communication and I rather phone than sms/whatsapp), and phone out.

So with this set up I am using the two smaller networks and their great low prices, but I have the MTN and Vodacom roaming to cover me. Both our places of work and our home are inside Telkom's grid, so the roaming would be minimal anyway. That and hopefully Cell C's reliability in Gauteng stepped up like they promised the last few months, so no phantom missed calls (been getting them a lot on Vodacom also).

Well at least this is my current exit strategy from Vodacom in January.

+1000 Brilliant
Now if only more people can think like that.
You planted a seed, let's see how it grows

Does the data roam on MTN as well if you buy a data package from Telkom with this plan? I am thinking of switching, but want internet access when out of telkoms network.

Unfortunately not! You will notice if you purchase a data bundle it will have the TM(Telkom Mobile), roaming you pay different prices unfortunately :(

I am definitely going to port over to Telkom Mobile now, incredible prices
