WinAmp consigned to Internet Valhalla by AOL

VLC killed the (former) media player star? One up for OSS!

While I'd love to ascribe the victory to free software, I'm not so sure it wasn't just iTunes (and maybe a little bit Windows Media Player) that killed it.

I guess you are right. Just because vlc is the third piece of software I install on a Windows machine (after a proper browser and Total Commander) it probably does not mean everyone else does the same.

VLC is my go to movie player...

Audio, not so much...

Moved over from Winamp to Foobar a couple of years ago, only thing I missed were the awesome visualizations available in Winamp. Using Potplayer for video (since KMP turned into bloaty software).

You'd think Winamp would make the pro version available for download before the termination date...

Well this sucks. I am still using winamp. Its just awesome along with the standard skin and nice UI.

I too moved to Foobar as my music player, a long time ago.

However, Winamp's Shoutcast service for audio streaming is so nice! Local radio stations suck a$$ and we stream rock in our store.

Just use TuneIn Radio. It's available on any device.

As a standard music player I always used WMP or VLC. Never liked Winamp from the very first version.

I recently discovered Media Monkey and it is awesome if you have a really large music library. Mine is sitting on just over a terabyte with about 75,000 tracks, so needs some serious organisation...
