How easy is it to launch a channel within a few hours with content? Guess they have been planing this for a while, just waiting for his death to be announced.

Of course he will... A picture of him in Noseweek with a pirate hat comes to mind.

I have seen talk on the international front that many believe he died months ago and they waited until now to announce it.
But MonoChoice had probably planned it in advance, what's the chances... considering all the work that goes into a channel.

Do you think everyone (from a media point of view) came up with these glowing tributes, news reports, stories etc in the minutes and hours since he died?

Of course not. Everyone is well prepared for this eventuality.

That explains why when Obama was in SA he did not go to see his hero.
People would want to see pictures of that.
 
I certainly respected Mandela as a significant statesman (albeit seemingly more aligned with communist/socialist/non-democratic leaders) and he certainly played the key role in our transition, but I have to say I think they are taking things a little too far. No man is a saint and the 24hr wall to wall blanket coverage is perhaps a little over the top, as are the endless tasteless obituaries by tacky politicians and greedy corporates all falling over themselves to get on the bandwagon.

They are doing nothing more than cheapening the memory IMHO

Oh, and I thought every channel on every TV and every Radio was the Mandela Memorial channel. My bad. There's obviously a need for another one...
