Hi all

Hi Telkom_ZA, Hi Ranger.

After so many posts in the Telkom Uncapped thread which seemingly all go unnoticed, I believe it is time to highlight the problem in a separate thread to hopefully (I pray) give it the focus it deserves.

We have a separate gaming thread for TI users, so let's see what happens.

My dozens of posts summarised into 1:

Hulu, Netflix and Vevo HD streaming either on PC, Apple TV or Samsung TV smart apps are useless during the evenings from around 6PM onwards. Weekends seem ok.

Constant buffering, less than SD quality, basically useless.

A handful of users claim to have no problems. Many, however, experience the same as the above.

I'm on TI 10 meg uncapped. Am not a high volume downloader (<100gb month).

If I use a backup Afrihost Capped account during the times referred to above, everything works perfectly.

So I can only conclude it's a TI issue.

How do we get problem resolution, technical assistance and solve this ?

Is streaming video traffic like this shaped, throttled, de-prioritised, unrecognised, <insert term you like here> ?

We await an answer.

It's been going on for months.

:cry::wtf::mad:

EDIT:

YouTube always works fine. Up to 720p on clips that have it.

Definitely QoS and traffic shaping going on for some video protocols. Come on TI. Fix this please.

I'll be that guy that posts and has no problems with streaming.
My line is a bit inconsistent of late dropping the connection at times but streaming remains rock solid.

4mb Uncapped

Think I asked you this before - but could you try establish at what bitrate you are able to stream from these services at ?

Exactly the same problems, and I have been asking for feedback about this for a month every week now. According to international tracerts, my exchange is not congested and as the above most states, my netflix also works 100% on afrihost capped.

Working perfectly on Afrihost 4mbps uncapped as well. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video. I've used about 150GB per month for the last 5 months. Perhaps you should consider changing ISPs if you don't get any joy from them.

That's not the point of this thread.

I'm with Telkom and my Netflix & Hulu play flawlessly... 10mbps capped service.

Amazon Instant has frequent buffers and breaks but plays fine on the weekends. Redbox instant picture quality is muddy/blotchy.
I dont think the Amazon problem is a Telkom issue as there seem to be a lot of folks complaining on the Amazon Instant forums.

I have however noticed a difference between services when played on different devices. PC seems to have less issues playing Amazon Instant compared to Xbox/PS3.

So just to confirm - you're on a Telkom capped account ? So the problem still remains with their uncapped product.

I really don't want to change ISP but Afrihost 150 Capped is the product I'm considering changing to. fwiw.

Yup... doPremium capped account!

Definitely makes me think then it's an uncapped TI QoS de-prioritisation / shaping / throttling of streaming traffic then in the evenings.

Needs to be solved !

Did you test the Telkom and Afrihost account back to back at the same time?

Everytime.

Afrihost never fails to run perfectly.

TI says thou shalt not stream in the evenings.

Interesting... I wonder if I would get better performance with Afrihost for Amazon Instant video?
I'm going to test this out when I get a chance...
