Elephant put down in KNP after attack

:

And read up what? Some boob's self-confessed and widely contested pro-culling 'opinion', as per the 2nd sentence of your link? No thanks; I'm well enough familiar with pro- and ant-culling arguments.
Oh, so now you want to cull ants?

I had a really long response for you which I deleted - I may rewrite it in the light of day. I wonder if you really are familiar with all the arguments.

Dafuq? :wtf:

Why would I want to cull anything, let alone ants?

*edit*

Oh, right... because I said 'ant' when I meant 'anti'... fair enough.

My wife and I keep a clean house; I don't attract them in the first place. :p

:p Yeah, yeah. If Joeys ever experiences a drought you'll be culling ants like a colonial conservationist.

I wasn't really trying to make a point but, the fact is as long as tourism and conservation go hand in hand taking out animals that think it's cool to **** up humans will be a thing. And to pre empt the obvious arguments, humans have bigger problems than ensuring the survival of other species.

I'm practising my population control skills on mozzies and flies - I'll be prepared. :D

Indeed, although people do also routinely act monumentally stupidly around elephants. Especially foreigners, who don't seem to realise that films with 'Dumbo' in the title don't tend to be factually accurate portrayals of pachyderms.

Another intelligent debate thread with name culling and ants.

Been posted, the elephant was shot, there is a long thread about it somewhere...

EDIT: and they have moved it there. wish I could see the vid, blocked at work and not working on my S2

An Elephant with flared ears is an angry elephant. Elephant with flared ears turning around and coming towards is a very angry Elephant. Don't be an idiot and follow it. Don't be an even bigger idiot and stay put when it comes at you, bro.

Maybe limit access to the park when Elephants are in musth?

Why were they following the elephant so closely? Looking for schite if you ask me.

/waits for roux with his vw comments

Will have to wait till home to see vid, but they are foreigners, maybe they don't know how elephants are. I have a healthy respect for them, but these tourists might just have seen documentaries and boy, do those ever romanticize the "gentle giants of the savannah".

The tourists clearly had absolutely no idea what they were doing and provoked the elephant. Without their naivety (and yes this is naivety, not stupidity) this animal would not have been killed, and they'd be fine.

Tourists should be required to complete a small test before being allowed to enter a park - a simple safety test.

The reasons given for the elephant being killed are nonsense. The animal acted pretty naturally if you ask me, and the previous incident of aggressiveness was apparently towards another elephant, which is completely bloody natural...

Just checked the video.

They were asking for it. Animal should have been left alone. Elephants can be aholes, but this was the people being aholes to the elephant. They could even have sped away while he was standing on the side.

Yup. So sad. I don't understand why the elephant had to be put down. It was being an elephant. And this had nothing to do with culling, as some people are trying to suggest.

Agreed, they where too close and continued to provoke the animal.
I have seen it numerous times in Bots and Etosha where "tourists" leave their brains behind at the bungalow.

They where far too close to that animal and this video should of come to the animals defense as it clearly walked away and was followed by the car close enough that it could of crapped on it's bonnet.
