DStv Explora vs DStv HD PVR

None of those features are even vaguely enough for me to contemplate throwing out a R1500 decoder (that can record more channels at once), and replacing it with a R2500 decoder.

I would agree that it is better than a 2 tuner PVR, but if you can get hold of a 4-tuner one, then the benefits are not great. I have a Pace 4 tuner and already have more recorded than I will ever watch

It has a built in filing system though which categorises the programs, if you learn how to use it. I fitted one for my neighbour and she still does not use any of these functions

Also have a good read on the DSTV Forum about the bugs in the initial release which have yet to be addressed

It has been discounted to R 2000 at Hi-Fi Corporation

Agreed .. I too will hang on to my Pace 4-tuner model as long as it continues to work

Ditto, but the machine is starting to give hassles and make a whining sound.
Was told by the one of the local DSTV installers that you can trade your old PVR
for a re-furbished PVR SD - Cost R400
My one reboots intermittently, 1st channel (not 2nd) image is awful on certain DSTV channels

I also get the whining sound .. but it's not from the Pace 4T ... it's from the vrou when I change the channel from "Days of our lives" to Rugby or Cricket :p

You need to contact Multichoice and see if they have any vrou's that are appreciative of sport so you can swap your current model out. That whining sound is indicative of a defective model :p

For a new decoder, it is absolutely crap. It lags, have a longer process to find things and is not at all user friendly for older people.

Replaced my 1110 with the Explora, over Xmas from Dad to Dad , in an Xtraview setup with a 4T HD Pvr. Quite lekker :) No lag, resolving conflicts quite easy (recording conflicts that is, not family ones) , searches quick, etc . Quite happy so far

For me, enough said ^^^

The rewind/FF/play and pause actually work and bear some resemblance to what is displayed on the screen at the time on an explora, something we haven't had since the SD PVR, for that feature alone it's worth it...
