Hi.
Planning a vacation to the east at the end of April this year.

Bali for 7 nights and Hong Kong for 2 nights.

1. Has anyone been to these and can recommend activities to get up to.

2. Should we do HK first and the Bali or go to HK at the end?

3. Anywhere else we should consider or will Bali give us the right mix of sightseeing and R&R?

Thank you

Oh I'm green with envy. I'm saving up for a trip as well... still along way to go.
One of the things people warn me about is, Bali Belly. Apparently it is just as bad as Delhi belly.
Ten days in Bali, got four days to go
Ten days of terror cos I'm glued to the throne
An I'm ****tin' in litres and firin' both ends
I'll never **** solid again

And it's cost me a fortune for this holiday
'Stead of pissin' it up, Christ, I'm ****tin' it away
Cos I'm glued to the loo while me mates are out ragin'
I'll never **** solid again

I'll never **** solid again
Or hold anything down for as long as I live
Cos me arse is jammed open from freckle fatigue
I'll never **** solid again

The advice I got was :
take red koolaid it helps.
When you land in Bali. First thing you do is eat plain local yogurt with cultures, it will prepare your tummy for the local food.

Spent around 3 to 4 months in HK each year for the past 6 odd years. I'll drop you a PM with a list of things to see and do. HK is a great city and a must visit for all.

Went to Bali a few years ago stayed at the club med, we got pretty good deal, was 15 each for my wife and I... including flights, accomodation, transport to/from airport and free booze/food for our entire 7 day stay. Was a honeymoon package but all you literally need to give them to prove you're on honeymoon is a copy of your invite... which you can slap together quickly.

Activities wise, Go check the volcano, theres a restaurant with a view of it. Obviously go to the beaches and temples too.

Went a couple of years ago, absolutely amazing country.

Recommended:

1. Take a taxi / bus up north to the volcano, eat at the restaurant there. Along the way you can stop at different villages, each with their own trades, like stone, silver, etc. Get some great products.
2. Jimbaran Beach.. Eat dinner on the beach while watching the sunset!
3. Dreamland Beach.. Very famous, amazing drive, beach is awesome.
4. Parasailing.. Tons of fun!

*Not sure where you got this 'Bali Belly'. We did venture out quite a bit and never had any issues.

Nice beach, good waves... but watch for hobo masseuses who will start trying to give you free samples while you're relaxing in the sun with your eyes closed with there scabby calloused hands.

Hong Kong nice city , but can be a real tourist trap , money wise.

I have stayed at the Kimberley Hotel on Kimberley road a few times, not over priced, just off Nathan road, and within walking distance of the MTR as well as the ferry terminal and promenade.

Worth seeing or doing -

Take the elevated walkways up from Central to Soho area in the late afternoon, their are some very nice bistro's to be found in that area.
Evening walk along the promenade to view Hong Kong at night, pretty amazing.
Or try go up Hong Kong peak in the evening if the weather is good, if there is cloud cover dont bother (no view)
Sundowner harbour cruise always worth it.
Take the MTR out to the Airport area then take the Cable car ride up to the Buddha on Lantau Island.
At night take the MTR to Mong Kok and follow the signs up to Sai Yeung Choi Street, their are lots of electronic and photographic shops in that area, as well as the night markets.
Far better to shop up there than along Nathan Rd.

And don't forget Ocean World....and if you have kids Disneyland.

Also the Symphony of lights, every evening from the Kowloon side of the bay, along the Avenue of Stars. Pretty cool lights show.

I must say, though, it really depends on what you enjoy doing; touristy stuff, seeing the "real" HK or maybe a mixture of both... ?

Don't take any clothes to HK. Take an empty case and stock up at Stanley market or one of the many other markets, especially fun in to walk around in the evening. Check out the Sky Terrace at The Peak - cool shops and a really great view of HK. Catch a high-speed Ferry from HK to Macau in the early evening, go check out the casinos, visit some clubs etc. Even just wondering around central HK in the evening is fun.

It helps to have a basic translation app on your phone, especially when using the taxi's. Get yourself an octopus card, load some cash and use the public transport and get a bit lost and find your way back again. And buy loads of fresh juice from the juice vendors all over the place - stuff is fantastic.

HK is loads of fun - hope you have a great time there :).

lol - yogurt will be on the first menu we eat ;)

.....
What to do in Bali is really based on what type of things you are interested in. Food, Cultural/historical, Spa, Diving, Elephant experience etc

Where are you planning on staying in Bali?

If you give me some indication of what you are interested in I can try and point you in the right direction

Staying at the Grand Aston Bali Beach Resort and in HK staying at Nathan Hotel for now but might end up changing it.

Not quite what you have in mind, but stil a massive bargain!

Looking for a mixture. I like modernisation but also have a strong appreciation for history.

And don't forget Ocean World....and if you have kids Disneyland.

Kiddo wont be with us but will do that when they are old enough to enjoy.
