iBurst to upgrade to 2 Mbps in near future

Will we need to replace our hardware? Or will iBurst offer it at a large discount to existing customers?

As long as the base stations are upped to 135mps I am happy. Thats almost a 7 fold capacity increase.

Now do this ASAP IBurst!

Yawn:rolleyes:

Wake me up when it actually happens.

135Mbps per base station and 2Mbps per user so only 67 people can connect at near 2Mbps speeds before speed starts going down? Or am I wrong?

Yes, but at the moment only 20 people can connect before your speed starts to degrade. It's a huge jump from 20mb/s to 135mb/s!

The original plan was that the base stations only be upgraded to 100mbs. It seems that it's even more now. Well done iBurst!

The last part of the article states that the next big step is 6mb/s. This just shows that the technology is capable of exceeding the so-called limit of 2mb/s.

3 Cheers to IBurst!

The next speed upgrade for iBurst after this phase is to 6Mbps which he said is planned in the not so distant future

And how about a price reduction and upped cap too?

Compared to the current 20/1 ratio? I'm not complainiing...

16Mbits/s without ArrayCom onboard? Well that would make the theoretical download speed limit of iBurst, faster than the theoretical download speed limit of HS[D]PA, of course it's all very much theory...

What about upload speeds and reducing and stabilising latency on iBurst in SA?

And how about a price reduction and upped cap too?

Well, the price really depends on the cost of Intl bandwith. If Telkom doesn't reduce their price for bandwith, then IBurst won't get cheaper.

As was asked before - do you keep your old router/modem, or do you need to purchase a new one?

Apparently the current modems capacity is only 1mb/s. Not sure if you'll have to buy a new modem or if you can just exchange modems.

Giving credit before it's due:rolleyes:

Bit like saying well done to the DOC and ICASA for brining down the prices of telecommunications and opening the door to affordable access.

At this point all I've seen and heard is a lot of talk and very little, if any, action on their part and as we all know, actions speak louder than words.

If iBurst can bring a stable, 2mb product to the market without breaking the bank, only then will I give them the kudos that they are looking for. And even then it will not be enough as we will still be waaa......aaaaaay behing our international siblings. As for a 6mb product.....the less said the better.

Until then it is just another promise that needs to be followed through on.

Kudos in advance... lets see it happen...

But I'm still waiting for coverage.... KZN South Coast please... There are many people itching to get iBurst down here, and yet no plan in place to build us a tower....... pretty please.... one of those 16mb one? ;)

In my opinion, this is nothing more than a sly marketing trick to get people who are waiting for DSL installations to go with iBurst. I doubt whether anyone at iBurst will divulge any real information about this "imminent" upgrade.

I'll also believe it when I see it.

well seems as the techies at iburst are doing better but if they base their talk on the way their accounts dept handles things then we could most likely expect this 2Mbps in 2010 :(

Hmm ... shouldnt be too long a wait now JohnnyG:D Last I heard theyve finished setting up the Jacobs Bridge and probably heading towards Isipingo now... long as you not too far down the coast?
There will be Wireless networks bobbing up all the way down - Im crazy?
*laffin... watch and see.... really ...
