Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

So when you download between 12am and 7am then it is not counting towards your usage. I thought it was 12am to 6 am ? (I saw people talking in this thread about 12am to 7am)

It recently changed - a few pages ago.... Be assured, it's midnight till 7am.

just took telkom 10 meg uncapped. Am sorry if i missed something but this line runs at 50k/s during office hours and admitidly run full speed at midnight. Why is the throttling on this so-called telkom uncapped so drastic during office hours. Is there somewhere that i can see exactly what the speeds are during office hours.

50k on Torrents ? If so, yes, that's normal. Shouldn't be happening on anything else though.

Also on 10MB uncapped and the only protocol I experience shaping on during business hours is p2p (I'm not a gamer or Netflix user).

When my 4mb works (which is more often than not, if I'm honest, nowadays anyway) it's pretty much comparable to an unshaped experience no matter the time of day. I don't use torrents, so I've never been able to comment wrt to that aspect, but browsing, streaming and http downloads are faultless. I'm sure we all wish this were the case all day everyday, but like every other ISP there are always some issues that creep up. Regardless, I'm (mostly) happy with TI.

The same applies to my 2mb

Same here, even torrents are running at 70-100% in normal hours.

Anyone else unable to connect in the Port Elizabeth area? All I'm getting is a right light on my modem, no connection what so ever.

We are busy bringing up another CDN (as of last night), which may be related. Were other services (e.g. youtube) impacted? Is is still happening? If so, can you provide a traceroute to the host part of the url?

Now and then YouTube buffers (@ 720p), but its bearable.

iTunes still downloads at less than 50kbps on average.
Here is a traceroute

Previously I was consistantly getting 12ms ping and 1.74 download speed on 2Mb line.

Location 021712xxxx

\edit

I did a port reset which did not help. Upload speed dropped below .2

I've been having problems with my ADSL since June of this year .

I have logged numerous faults with Technical support on 10210 with no resolution thus far.

I was originally on a 1MB capped package with Telkom and then was upgraded to 2MB and for the last 2 months I've been on 4 MB.

Now since June I have experienced horrible speeds and crazy high pings on tracert's to 8.8.8.8 I mean over 1200ms on average.

Now I have contacted Paul Shaw at Telkom who has looked into the matter for me and he states my exchange is currently congested .

Around the 13/11 he stated in a mail that the lead technology planner has not fully finnished the de-congestion of the exchange but that I should have seen an improvement since the 11/11 which I did.

I actually had normal speeds in the evenings for about 5 days or so since the 11/11 but anything during the day even after the 11/11 shows speedtests results under 0.42mbps with pings over 250 ms second hop.

Now for the last week and a half I have 0.2kbps speeds on speedtest with high pings most times the speedtest fails to complete or fails to load.

I cannot open webpages it takes 2-3 minutes just to open my email when it will open.
Downloads don't move at all and Ping Plotter shows pings of over 200-400 ms on the second hop to 8.8.8.8 now this is set to intervals of 10 seconds .

I have seen random dips and spikes on Ping Plotter but they so inconsistent that a ping of 80ms now will be 352ms on the next run.

I'm also within 617 meters of the exchange and line synch is at almost 28mb download 1.2mb upload with perfect ATT and SNR.

A friend who is 2.6 KM away from the same exchange has better pings and speeds than me which I cannot understand if we on the same congested exchange .

Would this not mean there might be something else effecting my line other than just the congested exchange ?

Now I also know that a technician has never dealt with my fault by actually coming to my house or checking at the exchange it's always been passed off when logging a fault that the exchange is to blame and I need to wait for the upgrade.

Now I've received info that the completion of the upgrade will occur mid December but I don't want to wait till then to find out that it might be something else causing my problem .

Who can assist as I've logged over 30 calls 4 mails to Paul even asking please can he assist by getting a techie to go out and check at the exchange and no reply yet from him for the techie request .

I'm seriously contemplating percussive maintenance till it works .

Have you sent TelkomZA a PM about this and/or contacted him via their Twitter account ?
