R499 MTN Steppa smartphone a big hit

This is what happens when something is NOT unnecessarily expensive. Amazing innit.

EDIT: Oh and it helps if the product does NOT look cheap even though it sort of is.

Was about to post about the Y220 here. Impressive device for that price. How does the steppa fair against the Y220 in real world practical use?
 
My wife finally decided to try an Android Phone and we did considered the Steppa and Y220 but I did not like the screen resolution, Android 2.3.5 and available memory of the latter so we decided on The Huawei Ascend Y300 for R1000, it has a 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (233 ppi pixel density). Someone over 50 (like us) can surf the web comfortably with it. It also has a duel-core processor and 1 GB for installing apps if you don’t use the SD card. It’s double the price but it’s a device you can live with without getting irritated and that was before I even knew about the adverts!
Typical MTN!

Install an alternative Launcher.

GO Launcher EX worked fine for me but did a system reset, running stock launcher again, trying to isolate some WiFi issues. I'll probably try to swap out the phone later this week and see if it fixes the WiFi issues.

PS: This was a demo unit and that took me 3 weeks to hunt one down.
