South Africa’s most violent city

honestly I think the number of murderers per 100 000 in the population is a more significant indicator of violence and I strongly suspect Jbay could do really badly on that list and out of metropolitan settlements PE would come up top

Cape Town always had a higher number of murders of any SA city per 100 000 since the stats on this started in the 90s. I don't think it was ever anything else than no 1 on that list.

How does number of murderers per 100 000 make a difference. If it is lower, it just means that the perpetrators of these murders in Cape Town is much more violent than those in Johannesburg.
 
If I recall the stats correctly, Cape Town always had a higher murder-rate than Jhb but Johannesburg had the higher attempted-murder number.

I always took it that, while the Joburgers try to do stuff, it's us Capies that gets stuff done..
 
Quite an interesting stat just before elections. Would the ANC argue that this is what you can expect if the DA comes into power?

I doubt that, the crime rate when the ANC was in control of the WC was much higher than it is now.
 
The heading is very misleading. A highest murder stat does not equate to "most violent". To be classified most violent a list of items must be included and when that is done the picture comes out very different. Rape not violent? Assault not violence?

Anyone who's lived in Gauteng and Cape Town knows the difference.
 
But if such a stat keeps stupid people out of Cape Town then I will help mount the banners.

I have lived in both, and I do think Cape Town and surrounding areas are more violent. But Cape Town is still the better place to stay for a variety of reasons. And in Cape Town if you have the means you can avoid most of the violence in any case.

The stats may be telling a whole different story than it should ... and that is: In the Western Cape the stats are properly collected, maintained and reported. On paper this makes the Western Cape look bad compared to other areas but in reality on the ground things are very different. What the stats really show has a lot more to do with political manipulation than fact/reality on the ground. These stats are dangerous (and the DA in the WC has said so for years).

The flipside of course is the crime doesn't affect the more affluent areas as much as the poor, I'm sure if there were more people from the other side of the mountain on MyBB the story would be different.
 
I always new CT was most violent.

Someone once mentioned that Cape Town has the highest murder rate per capita in the world...

This is all mainly attributed to the cape flats and the gangs I would rate.

And then we have so many people in CT who think we live in paradise and they aren't safety conscious at all :/
 
Hopefully next year we could be in the top 10. Fire crackers, happy tunes and drinks all around
