South African copyright protector Safact caught pirating content

I don't get it. They used a image owned by reuters and photoshopped it, then used an istock photo without attribution as in its license terms and also copied and pasted text from a mybroadband news story without attribution or agreement.

Their hands get caught in the cookiejar 3 times without repercussions yet they expect us to support them going after others pirating content.

If they can use the excuse they made a mistake 3 times without there being any repercussions then any person who pirates should be afforded the same opportunity. If this hypocrisy is brought up by a defendant in a court case they are involved in so much more the better.
 
Copyright costs

I trust SAFACT will pay their web site maintenance people danger pay for the costs of rigid compliance with copyright.

Perhaps it highlights something underlying to most people labelled 'pirates': They do not know when they are pritating.

Because, this just throws a huge big spanner in the works of criminal intent...

I think a lot of clarity and awareness should be created before they go on a rampage and try to prosecute everybody. How many people, that use the internet (the single greatest source content), really know what copyright infringement is? Is copyright infringement downloading a movie via BitTorrent? What about FTP or this thing called NNTP? Am I allowed to download songs off of the artist's website? Can I upload MTV music videos or a montage of funny movie scenes to YouTube?

As a normal every day joe citizen of South Africa, how am I suppose to know that I was breaking the law? We were taught at a young age that killing and stealing is morally wrong and against the law; but nothing about copying an image and using it on a social/community website for fun.

Ignorance may be bliss for some.
 
I accidentally clicked utorrent instead of iTunes when I bought a movie just last week so I do understand that these things can happen.
 
That awful feeling when you have been caught with your pants down... :sick:
