Cell C hikes out-of-bundle data prices

Not entirely happy with this move, but its understandable in a way...

It "helps" people buy more bundles, rather than just buying a bundle and then going OOB.

Yep just got an SMS just now to say the same, disappointing actually.

The in bundle prices are still great but this new policy basically forces you to make sure you have a bundle loaded.I got so used to just using data without the need to constantly check how much is available.

Please revert back to the old pricing Cell C as consumers are not going to be happy with this new need to always check how much data is left.

I was getting charged R0.99 OOB on prepaid anyway

Are you sure thats accurate?

My take on this is that out of bundle was 90c unless you bought a data bundle in which case it will be 15c once the bundle is depleted.
Now its 99c if you did not have a bundle and 15c if you did have a bundle.

So, except for the higher price & the inconvenience & the fact that they're turning into VC .. this actually "helps" people?

Actually that's how it USED to be but with this change it will mean ONLY bundle data costs R0.15,everything else out of bundle is going to be R0.99.
So if you have a bundle and its finished then you will have to buy another bundle to get the R0.15 rate.....

Yip, had a look at the site and this looks like its true :(

Now cellc join the other OOB sharks and with their crappy network it makes no sense to be on cellc.

Well that's another reason that I'm happy to be with 8ta. Maybe Cell C really does need money quickly. The OOB shark will make them lots of cash. Either way, this goes against their ideas of simplicity.

This is why "helps" is in quotation marks....

I can see that someone in the marketing dept has pushed this type of move.. as a means to get people to buy more bundles, rather than just buying 1 and using data OOB.

Exactly the same for me. I just have a R 15 bundle on top of my normal "Straight up" and if I go over I know it's 15c / meg - no worries.
Now I have to buy a bigger bundle and watch it - what a hassle! This really sucks!!

Getting charged 99c OOB on contract since signing up 6 months ago. Still beats MTN's R2

I had to double check the date on the article after reading it just to make sure it wasn't an old April 1st article.

If you can't beat them ... join them!

They are all the same - Cell C is just getting into the money pot. Bait and switch? Is that the right term?
