My Roku 3 updated this afternoon, and suddenly Netflix is giving me the "Sorry, Netflix is not available in your region error". However, works fine from other devices on the LAN. More details, it says my location is ZA, and DNS servers are the two UnoTelly ones, plus 8.8.8.8! This is new, I'm sure.

Tried blocking 8.8.8.8 on my router's firewall, as that's Google's DNS server, and is probably giving away my location, and Netflix is back to normal.

Thank goodness, SWAMBO was not impressed when she got home...

Hopefully this helps anyone else who is suddenly getting this error.

I see Google has 2 dns servers, namely 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Would it suffice to only block udp port 53 for the above ip addresses?

Hi Jano. I am having exactly the same problem and have tried many, many suggested fixes but none works. I still get ZA location on Netflix. Please could you help me with more details as to how you fixed this. I am a bit of a dumbo when it comes to networking issues! I have a Netgear router by the way. Thanks in advance!

i had to change dns servers on router as unotelly changed there dns servers.

Roku is up and running again.

Also have 8.8.8.8 as a backup and mine is running fine.

Is this after the update or before? Roku did an update lat night - or sometime yesterday.

Could you confirm what version you are running on the Roku?

Cant corfirm , girlfriend using at there home , but its was not working yesterday , so i had to change dns servers

After the update yesterday, my Roku is showing my Netflix location as ZA/En and says "not available in your country yet".
My version software/hardware on the Roku is Version 5.4 Build 3340. would appreciate if you could check yours and send me a PM sometime. Thanks

Blocking just Port 53 should do the job but you might as well block those two IP's all together as I don't recall them doing anything else.

Sorry for hijacking your post - from what I can recall, Netflix always had 8.8.8.8 listed under the DNS servers with the unotelly primary and secondary servers. Don't know if something has changed since the update yesterday??

Ok, so my joy was short lived - stopped working again... Arghh!

Will update when I get it up again.

I managed with just updating the DNS servers. The Netflix app still shows the Google DNS (8.8.8.8) but it now has my location as as English/US rather than English/ZA

use these DNS. i had the exact same problem... i was using the America DNS... everything went haywire after the update... changed to SA DNS and all is working fine...

Cape Town 197.242.94.51 (Dynamo Enabled)
Johannesburg 197.189.212.164 (Dynamo Enabled)

My Netflix is connected again but it's pretty much unusable on Roku & PS3 as it buffers continuously. The data stream is running at 25Kb/s which is too slow for anything to work. I'm going to try my free Afrihost account (I'm on Axxess) to see if that has any effect.

Got mine working by adding a route into the routing table. 8.8.8.8 to gateway. Sorted.

Did you not block Google DNS?

From what I understand is that you set up static route, so your router picks up the ip 8.8.8.8 and then routes it to your routers/gateway ip. What does your router do with the request on 8.8.8.8 then?

Haven't changed anything on my end and everything is still working fine. My Roku was updated to the new firmware at the beginning of the week.
