Netflix not coming to South Africa

It's probably too tough to customise the offering to cater for all the exclusivity agreements in place here already
 
Make it harder for us to get things legally, then we will continue to source content our own way. ;)
 
Who wants Netflix to come here? They'd probably have to inflate their prices or face some sort of anti-competition lawsuit from Naspers.

Leave things the way they are I say.

Did iTunes face such a lawsuit?

There would be no lawsuit. US based copyright owners would revoke the exclusive agreements they have with MIH or wait for them to expire and issue licenses to Netflix and that would be that. Problem is that the market is too small for Netflix in SA. Add the overheads, the BEE, exchange controls, taxes, VAT and so on and it's just not worth it for them. They should rather go to a place like Malaysia or Indonesia or India. Heck there are European countries they could open up in, etc.

iTunes doesn't have TV Shows.

It would be a similar thing and I was aware of that but it's not relevant. People also said the same about music on iTunes. Copyright and exclusive agreements are the same sort whether it is an IP work made for TV or cinema or radio/CD.

What in saying is iTunes didn't even bother to try and get the licensing in place.

They just didn't offer the service.

They obviously are offering music and movies which are (or were) also exclusively licensed to SK/NM/local music houses/etc. Why TV should be different is something you have to show conclusively.
