I have 3 Vodacom contracts of which 2 expired recently so I've changed them over to prepaid in anticipation for the port to CellC .. which would have happened around now.

Yet, all of a sudden CellC doesn't look like a good proposition anymore. Smaller data bundles, OOB rates up, extra hidden charges etc. Seems they played us to get numbers, and now they have it are starting to milk those for revenue.

Considering the others offer lower call rates now too, what exactly differentiates CellC? I.e. are there any reasons to still consider CellC above any of the others?

What do you mean by smaller data bundles?

The above is 100Mb and up. And you could most likely get better prices going contract.

I'm with CellC just because of those bundles on Prepaid. Couldn't find it cheaper.

OOB rates may have went up, but other networks OOB rates are on par or worse, so I don't see how this is bad.

Cell C is much cheaper for general use, you get cheap contract minutes and fair data bundles. I looked into is for a while and moved and am seeing huge savings in my bill.

Considered Telkom Mobile? I recently ported Vodacom numbers to TM, on the Smart OneRate (or whatever it's called) - R45/m SIM-only, with 79c a call per/s billing, 15c/MB data. Fixed rate. No OOBs. Month-to-month. Roams on MTN network, but same rates apply. And the bill is added to the business, so it's one Telkom account for everything, landlines, DSL, and mobile. So far so good.

CellC prepaid with the SupaCharge is ridiculously cheap... That said it's the only positive I can think of and there are several black holes where Cell C subscribers go to die

Good question. I have 2 x Cell-C Straight Up 100 (Top Up) contracts coming to an end in September.
Currently get 100MB (edit: of which I can only use 80-90MB), 100 SMS and 100 minutes for R100 (with 3 months rollover on each).
With Cell-C you can supplement your monthly data allocation with the 3GB / 365 day bundle which I think is now only R299.

...and my last experience with their call centre was abysmal.
Haven't found it too bad... way better than MTN, and the Cell-C rep here is pretty helpful.

Why change now? All pricing is changing for the better on all networks.

I don't understand why anyone will change now.
All networks have the right option for the right user.

People on this forum should be people in the know. You should know which network works for you.

MTN is starting to look better, deal wise. Cell C better do something quick.

I don't think I would move from Cell C, they got the cheapest prepaid data deals, last I checked.

Cell c data is cheap. R15/100Mb vs R30 on vodacom and Mtn.
Also cell c has prepaid "night owl data" R49/1gig and R99/2gig. This works well for downloads.

Thats all great from a financial standpoint but looking at functionality Cell C is inconsistent with reception. Frankly the network sucks with dropped calls and not being able to phone as a regular occurrence

Yeah, this is why I am still on Cell C. Their data is affordable....their network is great in Port Elizabeth, getting anything between 3 - 9Mbps, but in East London...horrific network...struggling to get 1Mbps.

Regular occurrence? Where in Cape Town do you stay?

I've never had a problem with dropped calls.
Bellville/Durbanville area. The last two weeks I've had issues on both my phones (two Cell C contracts). Intermediate "Not registered on this network" messages (can't make any calls), bad reception (recipient's voice breaking up in a supposedly good known reception area) and dropped calls.
