Hi Guys!

I have a 10mbps ADSL Line form Telkom which has been problematic for the past 8 months.
It used to be fast and now its just boggly.

I bought a Linksys X1000 router, which could only get like 20kbps download speeds.
Then I installed my old thunderstuck trendnet router and its back at like 300kbps download speeds.

Now my question is, what is the best ADSL router to buy to get optimum ADSL speeds BUT also have extremely good Wifi signal for coverage of about 40 meters through a couple of walls...?

Please help!

Don't try kill two birds with one stone. Get the best possible ADSL modem for your line conditions. (perhaps the one you have now) Then buy a wireless router, connect the modem to the WAN port.

I've had the same D-Link DSL-2500U modem (cost is about R200 - R250) for about 4 years, and added a TP-Link wireless router TL-WR841ND (about R400 and something) to it about 3 years ago. TP-Link you can get through Uniterm Direct's website http://www.dbg.co.za/index.php

Have half-bridge mode setup, and dare I say that both are still rock-solid after all this time.
However, I don't keep them on all the time, so maybe that's why they've lasted longer than most ?

Also, I'm only on 2Mbps, but am sure they'd both be fine for 10Mbps, as the modem can handle up to ADSL2+ download speeds of 24Mpbs.

EDIT: re Wi-Fi, that router has 2x 5dBi changeable antennae, which were fine for me ; in your case that's probably an important fact - that you can change them for 8 or 10dBi each, so ask Uniterm, or whichever Co you get the router from, if they can be changed for more 'powerful' antennae.

Yeah I have had my dlink for like 4 years on 24/7 non stop. You just can't kill a dlink router.

I would suggest a dlink router to anyone that has a problem with the line. To me they just handle a bad line the best. I am on the edge of getting 10Mbps or kicking back 1 step to 8Mbps. If I use any other router like my old netgear or Mweb free fon router I can't get 10Mbps or if it does sync it drops a lot. On my dlink its stable on 10Mbps. I have 2 x 10Mbps lines to the same property and both run best on dlink routers.

Not sure how good their wifi is but I think it works well. Don't use it so often but my phone is connected to it all the time. You could always like settle for what IOU said adding a stronger wireless n router for faster wifi speed and range.

DEFINITELY a vote for this one.
I have an ASUS RT-N56U hooked up to a Billion N...something through the ASUS wan port. Wan ports for the win!
It's very hard to find a router that has a great DSL modem *and* good wifi range (and bandwidth for local streaming for that matter in one package) BUT if you insist on getting an all in one then this one is brilliant.
Just don't complain to me when it's R2188 price tag blows up your bank account :-)

P.S Sorry for all the caps lock above, feeling a bit hyper tonight...

EDIT:
Oh, and try fiddling around with different jacks in your house as that sometimes works.
Different lines in your house can have better or worse quality cabling so that is certainly worth the effort.
Although I was trying that the other day and as I was lying underneath the furniture there was an earthquake...
( totally serious )
