So what do you recommend, what do you use and why do you use/recommend/like it?

Im guessing Avast would be the one of choice... If so then why?

Avast, its just really good. Updates every 3 hours or so.

Uh yes, the updates, you switch on your computer and BAM!!! "AVAST ANTI VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED !!!!!"

...its like its trying to be a troll...

Just plain ol' Windows Defender with MBAM.

Have never needed anything more pronounced and likely never will.

AVG Free on my desktop, Windows Defender on my netbook because of memory limits. I've been seeing Bitdefender Free come up really well in a few AV tests and I'm considering trying it out. I'm also considering swapping out AVG for Avira.

I use windows defender and make sure my pc is updated with microsoft update havent had any issues
as yet

ps: not an antivirus but i also use CCleaner

I use Comodo firewall but it needs more of a advance user

You can get AVG Internet Security 2015 free for a whole year from sharewareonsale.com atm. The offer will expire soon though, so hurry.

I've used avast for 5 years now and I've never had a virus on my pc so it works well.

I also have MBAM and keep it updated in the event that i get a bad virus.

Use Rkill in safemode to stop all dodgy processess etc and then run MBAM.
