that sucks.

Sign of things to come. Must be costing them a fortune.

If i was upgrading now, I would then go for S5 over Note 4 as the 2 free screens are big value and negate the need for jnsurance on the device (as long as one is careful re theft).

I was told about it before launch by my Samsung trainer.

He did say that Samsung is cutting back those benefits because their competitors are not doing it.

Well the Nokia build quality appears to be better than a samsung, hence they don't need to offer free repairs.

I must admit, ADH coverage has been a massive reason for me to stick with a Samsung flagship device as opposed to any of the other Android manufacturer's who have been knocking at the door. The removal of this will seriously low the value-proposition offered by Samsung as I think many of us are willing to settle for slightly flimsier devices knowing that if anything goes wrong, we're covered.

I read something in the article about Samsung buying the Note 3 back but I am not clued up on it. Can anyone ellaborate?

Not really miles

iCare is more or less the same thing except
- there is a R500 (sorry R800 they have made theirs worse as well, probably exchange rate) excess
- It costs a little to buy (R800 for iPhone, R400 for iPad)

Also worse than the Note 3: ****ty USB 2.0 port and extra-****ty rear-mounted speaker like it's 2008 again.

/cue dry.fannie with an explosive, PMS-fueled fanboi apologist rant in 3...2...1...

Cellphone insurance is ridiculous anyways. You end up paying pretty much double. Rather save the money and if you do need repairs, pay the cash.

lol...

So you're effectively R1600 out of pocket if something goes wrong? Yeah, ADH is miles ahead then.

It used to be R400 and R500. So R900 if you are going to compare the old way vs the old way

New way - Now its R1600 for water damage for an iPhone 6 Plus.
vs Buy a new one for a Note 4

Yes iPhone 6 Plus is miles better...

ADH is the reason my wife went S5 instead of S5 mini (she wanted the smaller screen) - SO many of her friends have had their kids get hold of their phones and crack the screens so the ADH value is huge.

It has allowed me to use my S4 for the past 18 months without a cover which is a far more enjoyable experience as I know I have 2 screens in my pocket in case of damage!

One thing Samsung can rely on is that people that buy its devices aren't the sharpest tools. They're sheep who have allowed themselves to be marketed into a decision based on lots of shiny lights and big numbers next to specs.

Did anyone ever suspect Samsung to be on the level with any of it's promises ? It's a generic knock off "tech"company not a fuxxxing charity.

Plastic and mass made in china components are not a big deal to replace when you are selling the devices as "high end".

Do know what the "tremendous build quality that allows water proofing" is ?

A rubber seal bag inside the device. I kid you not !

The Note 4's 2K display will be much more expensive than the Note 3 or S5's Full HD display, therefor two repairs reduced to one.

Makes sense & still fantastic that Samsung offers it to their customers.

Personally I think this was abused and Samsung made a round about turn. Maybe I am wrong. I know this is an anecdotal statement.

No. The abuse is that it was a marketing ploy to make a cheap plastic rubber sealed phone seem "high quality" and "unbreakable". And if gaining that perception meant replacing some of the lucky packet phones so be it. They are charging premium prices after all. But they didn't expect anyone to be such a moron than to really believe their phone was unbreakable.
