Just interested to see if anyone here has got or had one of these & has an opinion of it?
Been reasonably happy with previous Vantec gear i've had before & a NAS seems to be overkill for what i need.
These are sub R2k.

WD Reds would be correct choice of HDD to use in something like this?

It seems from the reviews on NewEgg, that the fan is quite loud, that drives disappear from view and it has problems keeping a connection to the PC. It also apparently runs hot.

It's likely the power supply is under-specced, and will cause issues when all the drives are being accessed at the same time.

Do yourself a favour, and rather get a (second-hand?) HP Microserver. I have the N36L and N40L models, and am very happy with both.

Hi yes i did read reviews over on Newegg + Amazon - the fan noise that some people have & some don't seems like 1 guy contacted Vantec & they said the fan blades can sometimes slip out of position & how to remedy it,The losing connection deal i suspect is USB3 drivers as some seem to have & some not also.....Only want something like this for a bit of backed up storage that won't be used 24/7 & trying not to make a 14k+ odd spend doing it....Guess if i buy this & some drives & find out later this is a pos then i can go better class later & spread the spend a little......Been keeping an eye out for some second hand deals - just missed out on a Qnap TS 420 with 4 x 4tb drives for 5k the other day.
If anyone has something along this line they want to move throw me a PM.

Never lost connection with mine. But is a bit loud if you put the fan on full speed. Fan is at the top so bottom drives can get pretty hot

Thanks for coming in - going to be off more than its on so the heat angle doesn't concern me TOO much,i can see its not too smart a design re air flow but it'll be a 5-6k spend instead of 2k to go to other 4 bay options so this will do me for now i think.

No its a decent device. Had some problems with the USB 3 on my old sandy bridge m/b, but no problems on more recent m/b's.

Hi – looking at the very same product, as you mention: price is compelling, compared to the other options!

Did you purchase it in the end? And if so – how is it holding up? What you purchase it again if you had the choice?
