Can a hacker stop your car or your heart?

An ever-increasing number of our consumer electronics is internet-connected. We’re living at the dawn of the age of the Internet of Things. Appliances ranging from light switches and door locks, to cars and medical devices boast connectivity in addition to basic functionality.

It's been a reality for a couple of years now.
Saw a couple of (online) presentations at Def Con/Black Hat regarding hacked medical devices (specifically insulin pumps) and IIRC they recently hacked BMW's DriveConnect tech.

I then bumped into this article

I owned a Corrolla 1.8 about 20 years ago. Driving on the Ben Schoeman towards Pretoria the car electrically died oposite the Radar installations on the Swartkops airfield. After a few seconds everything came on again and I continued to work.

A few days later in conversation with a colleague, who, coincidentally had the same model, he said that exactly the same thing had happened to him at the very same place.

As far as I am concerned, something in the arrays was affecting the electonic ignition of that model.

Fortunately it only happened once.
