Good day guys.

Got home this afternoon to find the following message when trying to use the internet :

Now I am guilty of the fact, but now I have NO internet?! Should I not be throttled/shaped because I reached Telkom's FUP?

If I am suppose to be with out internet then, this no longer classifies as an UNCAPPED product?

Has this happen to anyone else?

EDIT : Sitting on 217GB usage from 1 - 23 Nov

Your net does get throttled. You don't get cut off.

Have you tried doing what the page says and log onto the usage portal?

That way you can see that you've been throttled on another page as well. Brilliant!

Any IS account that reaches it's FUP limit will be throttled. The only ones that doesn't get throttled so bad are the Afrihost accounts but then you have to contend with other problems.

No... it will throw up a screen for him to accept the FUP and he can then continue.

Continue with a throttled line or can he buy a capped package or how does it work?

Honest question, haven't been with TM for long. I know with WA when you hit that cap your line is dead in the water. Google doesn't even load.

Continue with throttled line...

So his line has been throttled and if he logs on to the site he can accept that it has been throttled? Seems like a pretty useless thing to do then.

Sometimes it is better to say nothing at all when you don't know what you are talking about and wait for someone to give the correct answer.

Your comment has been received and has been rated as not relevant to the thread at all.

I remember ranger explaining the reason but cannot remember exactly what it is. It could be that they are doing a CYA in that the customer will then acknowledge that he/she is aware of the FUP.

Surely he has the right to query it?

Crowley wasn't the original person asking the question, and was just making smart comments about Telkom's FUP page which he himself said he has no idea about.

If you are going to be authoritative on something, you need to be correct.

Thank you very much everyone, I logged in and 'Accepted' the notice they have given. I'm classified as a power user :)

I stupidly assumed the whole process would be automatic like I had with MWeb way way back.

A quick speed test showed my downloads are throttled from a 4MB to well below 384k, uploads however are still fine.

Now how do I find out when this will be reset? Billing cycle? Or the 1st of December?

I will pause all linux distro downloads and use a capped account and ride this out, always have the need for speed!!

You will have full speed from the 1st of December. If you continue to impact negatively on the network Telkom may cancel your account.

You should schedule your downloads for midnight.

Lol, 200gb+ of Linux distros from 1 November to 23 November? :p

1 December

Schedule you big downloads between 00:00-07:00 as it does not count towards your usage.
