There are too many gaming monitor threads and I hope that this will be the one and only thread that forumites come to for advice.

I have been using a 47 inch TV as a PC monitor for approximately 2 years and my view distance was somewhere between 3 to 6 meters. This is obviously not a good idea and I am now looking at purchasing a gaming monitor ranging from 24 to 28 inch. I am leaning towards LG because of IPS but I also want a 2k or 4k resolution.

My budget is R6000 but let's not constrain this thread to a budget.

Watch out for Motion Blur and And Latency Input with IPS and semi IPS Monitors...

Please. Totally FUD. Mostly said by people that can't afford a decent IPS. Anything half decent, which he can get with that budget, won't have any of that. That LG he mentioned is crap though which is why I mentioned decent.

I am looking for a 27" monitor that will be used mainly as a PS4 monitor and secondly for web browsing etc.

Any suggestions.

Anyway, let's look at a few. You can get IPS and those juicy higher resolutions:

Here's one that's brand new, but probably out of budget:

For something more affordable I'd look the below.

Again out of budget, but a friend I have has one of these beats:

Absolutely ****ing amazing monitor. Even though it's 16:9 I'd probably have picked one up if I had the cash.

If you want 16:10 there's this:

If you want something smaller:

You may also want to consider 21:9:

All 3 these monitors have a response time of 8ms. This is not really good for gaming.

Speaking from experience.

Also, anything more than 5ms is not acceptable for gaming.

2ms preferred.

2ms means TN. TN is crap.

This is the same thing with SSDs vs mechanical drives all over again. If you had a crap monitor fine, then you had a crap monitor.

I'd also suggest you watch that LG 21:9 review.

Wow this LG... is on point... Fsck. I have always loved LG. How much are we talking? I dont mind waiting an extra month or 2. :D

That one is probably crap expensive. And and such doesn't really compare to the cheap IPS they have.

Was just example to show that ms isn't everything. Hell we used to use 12ms monitors back in the day and 8ms was gaming grade.

It's all relative.

Something closer to your budget:

Some good recommendations, I am looking for higher resolution monitors for ample working space as well.

Well I'm sold on the 21:9 aspect ratio screens.

I found this, the skeleton I am working from:
LG 29EA93-p 29" Led display with iPS technology ( true 178° wide viweing angle + real color ) ,
21:9 ultra wide (ample work space)
support screens split mode ( work as 2/3/4x displays ) (Something I never knew was possible)
support dual link up ( work as 2x separate displays for 2x PCs ) (convenient)
sRGB hardware calibration ready ,
built-in 2x 3.5w speaker ,
MHL ( Mobile High-definition Link ) , (I can see where my phone comes into play, but kinda useless if my PC is there.)
ultra Full HD 2560x1080 ; (I was hoping there would be a 4k version but it doesn't exist on this aspect ratio)
brightness- 300cd/m2 ;
mega contrast ratio- 5000000:1 ,
response time- 5ms
d-sub+ 2xHDMi+ DisplayPort+ headphone out+ 3xUSB3.0
100x100mm vesa wall-mountable

I think I should wait a bit for all manufacturers to release their 2015 models.
