Fibre internet in Gauteng on Openserve (Telkom) network

Guys help me out pls...I wana get Ftth but i am not ready to pay R699 for a 10mb line.How much in total will i be paying if i take the 100gb package from afrihost using telkom fiber line?
 
Beyond the coverage maps on the Telkom website, does anyone know anything about fiber plans for the Elardus park, Rietvallei park areas?

According to Telkom they need more interest but it is Planned.

So if you can try and spread the word and express interest with telkom etc.

Yeah, it is unfortunate, but luckily ISPAfrika were very helpful and were able to get my installation done in under 5 weeks. A week of which was my fault as I was away for Easter.
 
Our boomed area is close to the corner of Garsfontein and Rubenstein. Telkom indicated that Huawei will be installing FTTH in the boomed area, and we need to complete forms for access etc.

Big excitement! Hope this pans out!

Anyone in the Faerie Glen area on either Telkom or MWeb fiber? MWeb seams to have more package options on both speed and data, they are also slightly less expensive than Telkom. Any bad experiences, good experiences, which of the 2 do I recommend to a friend living in the area?
BTW if I understand correctly MWeb is only a 12 month contract where Telkom is a 24 month contract, personally I don't like being tied in a contract when it comes to internet, so I guess that's another advantage of MWeb.

Go with a company like ISP Afrika if you are looking at better deals on the line rental.
 
Axxess naked FTTH prices

As per today's MyBroadband article, Axxess have started to offer a "line only" Telkom FTTH product.

Although the option has effectively been available from one or two other ISPs for a while now, and the equivalent "retail" prices were already known, as far as I know (?) this is the first ISP to openly sell a "line-only" Telkom FTTH product.

Here are the prices as published in the full MyBB article :

Thanks jcheek, they might be standalone but there doesn't seem to be any cost benefit. For example, I have posted the ISP Afrika costs below. It's a pity since the main benefit of this sort of model would be the cost saving :/

Yeah, with only 10GB included, those ISPAfrika prices are effectively very much the same as "line only", but even so, they undercut the Axxess "line only" prices by R30 - R70 at each speed point.
What sort of rates are you paying for fibre data from ISPAfrika, or do you user another service provider(s) for data ?

I think it's also freedom of choice - freedom to take your data from whoever gives you the best deal (R/GB) and the best performance through Telkom's IPConnect. When comparing Telkom-based offerings between ISPs, there isn't much else to differentiate them!

Speaking of performance, the initial speedtest results you posted a month ago (for Afrihost ?) were awesome. Looks like you're maintaining a fair chunk of your local speed (nominal 100Mbps), even when testing to some offshore servers :

Connection performance - Telkom/Afrihost - 100Mbps nominal - 15:45 on 16 Apr 2016
Pretoria 005ms / 98.60Mps / 25.26Mps = 98.6% / 25.6%
London 170ms / 87.34Mbps / 23.12Mbps = 87.3% / 23.1%
New York 240ms / 22.59Mbps / 22.19Mbps = 22.6% / 22.2%

By comparison, this is what I measure on WebAfrica at more or less the same time of day :

Connection performance - Telkom/WebAfrica - 40Mbps nominal - 16:00 on 16 May 2016
Pretoria 006ms / 38.09Mbps / 7.46Mbps = 95.2% / 18.7%
London 201ms / 9.81Mbps / 4.26Mps = 24.5% / 10.7%
New York 248ms / 8.04Mbps / 2.92Mbps = 20.1% / 22.5%

ISPAfrika is R5/GB flat rate for top-ups from what I can see and they have no free night-time data. As a result, I'm using a capped Afrihost account for now. Cheaper normal data as well us unlimited data between 23:30 and 07:30.

Agreed, so as long as the line is through Telkom, it makes sense to go with the lowest price. I guess that after-sales support is also worth considering. I have never dealt with Axxess, but ISPAfrika's service has been pretty good so far.

Yeah I'm very happy with the performance. In fact, I have managed to do a threaded download over http from the UK at 88Mbps (11MBps).
