EDIT: please note that AAAStream is blocked on Kodi as of April 2015.

DISCLAIMER: This post represents a technical proof of concept only. I do not condone streaming of any channels in regions for which such channels are not licensed, nor do I, under any circumstances, condone the streaming of non-free-to-air channels without an appropriate subscription. If you choose to execute any of the steps below, you do so with the express understanding that it is at your own risk and that I am not in any way liable for any consequences of your actions.

After following these steps, you should have hundreds of US and UK channels working in FTV Guide, including all sports channels, with full Electronic Program Guide (EPG). This includes Sky Sports, which broadcasts major SA sporting events.

Mods, please sticky this. Several forum members have asked for these instructions.

Prerequisites

This guide assumes you have a running copy of Kodi or XBMC and an uncapped broadband plan. The setup has been tested on Windows 7 with a stand-alone copy of Kodi 14.1 and OpenELEC 5.0.2 (ARM) on a Raspberry Pi Rev B. It has been written from memory and, as such, may be prone to error or omission. If you pick up any problems, please comment so that I can update this guide.

STEP 1: Get Total Installer

1.1 From your home menu screen, arrow over to "System"

1.2 Arrow down to "File Manager". Hit enter.

1.3 A new screen will pop up. Select "Add Source". Hit enter.

1.4 Another box will pop up. Select the area that says (None) and hit enter.

1.5 Another box will pop up, with a virtual keypad. In the blank space type "http://i.totalxbmc.tv" (no quotations) Hit enter.

1.6 Arrow down to the box that asks you to enter a name for the source, and hit enter. Name this source whatever you want to name it, (e.g. "Total Installer") and hit enter. Then Select "OK" at the bottom of the screen, and hit enter.

1.7 Go to System, Arrow down to "Settings", hit enter.

1.8 Go to "Addons", hit enter.

1.9 Go to Install from Zip File, hit enter.

1.10 Select "Total Installer" (Or whatever you named your external source) and hit enter.

1.11 Select "repository.totalinstaller.zip" and hit enter.

1.12 The Total Installer repository is now installed.

1.13 Go to Programs. Hit enter.

1.14 Go to "Get More". Hit Enter.

1.15 Select "TR Total Installer" Hit Enter. (NOTE: some users report that Super Repo needs to be added to get this add-on: https://superrepo.org/get-started/ )

After a few seconds, the addon will become enabled, and now under programs, you will see "TR Total Installer" in the Programs addons list.

STEP 2: Get USTV NOW

2.1 Register a free account on https://www.ustvnow.com/

2.2 In XBMC, go to Programs, and then Total Installer.

2.3 Select "search for addons". Hit enter.

2.4 Select "Manual search". Hit enter.

2.5 In the popup box, type "ustvnow". Hit enter.

2.6 The list will populate with search matches. Select "ustvnow". Hit enter. Follow the on screen prompts to install the addon.

2.7 Main Menu > Videos > Add-ons > Highlight "ustvnow" and push the "c" key, to bring up the context menu. Select "addon settings"

2.8 In the box that pops up, enter the email and password that you used to sign up with at ustvnow. Also adjust video streaming bitrate to the lowest possible setting (unless you have a premium subscription)

2.9 Go to the bottom of the box, and select "Ok".

2.10 Now select ustvnow to open the addon. You should see a list that says "live" and "recordings". Select "live". You should see a list of channels.

2.11 Select any channel, and hit enter. The selected channel should start playing.

2.12 Add the channels you wish to keep as favourites from the context (right-click or 'c' shortcut) menu.

STEP 3: Get F.T.V.

3.1 In XBMC, go to Programs, and then Total Installer.

3.2 Select "search for addons". Hit enter.

3.3 Select "Manual search". Hit enter.

3.4 In the popup box, type "f.t.v" (notice periods). Hit enter.

3.5 The list will populate with search matches. Select "F.T.V". Hit enter. Follow the on screen prompts to install the addon.

STEP 4: Get FTV Guide

4.1 In XBMC, go to Programs, and then Total Installer.

4.2 Select "search for addons". Hit enter.

4.3 Select "Manual search". Hit enter.

4.4 In the popup box, type "ftv guide". Hit enter.

4.5 The list will populate with search matches. Select "FTV Guide". Hit enter. Follow the on screen prompts to install the addon.

4.6 Once FTV Guide is installed, open it.

4.7 Some of the channels will now work automagically using F.T.V. and USTV NOW. You can now map or re-map broken channels by choosing a working stream from your favourites (see next steps on how to find new streams). To remap a channel in the FTV Guide, use the context (right-click or 'c' shortcut) menu.

STEP 5: Set-up Live TV/PVR functionality

5.1 System -> Settings -> Live TV -> General and "Enable Live TV".

5.2 Disable any active PVR plugins such as Argus from System > Add-ons > Enabled Add-ons > PVR clients

5.3 Install or enable PVR IPTV Simple Client from System > Add-ons (this step will vary depending on whether your installation already has this add-on or whether you need to download it)

5.4 Click on the PVR IPTV Simple Client > Configure

5.5 On the "General" tab, set location to "Remote Path" and M3U Play List URL to http://file.xbmcmxtv.com/super1.m3u . Disable "Cache m3u at local storage".

5.6 Click OK.

5.7 Reboot the system. On startup, a channel scan will occur. Wait for this to complete, otherwise some channels will not work. After this, you will have a Live TV option with many channels working. I have not yet found a reliable EPG for these channels. I currently use FTV Guide to view programming schedules for most of them (refer to Step 6).

STEP 6: Remap broken channels to working Phoenix and AAA Stream sources

6.1 In XBMC, go to Programs, and then Total Installer.

6.2 Select "search for addons". Hit enter.

6.3 Select "Manual search". Hit enter.

6.4 In the popup box, type "phoenix". Hit enter.

6.5 The list will populate with search matches. Select "Phoenix". Hit enter. Follow the on screen prompts to install the addon.

6.6 Repeat steps 6.1 to 6.5 for the plugin called AAA Stream. Search "aaa" without the quotes, or if you can't find it, download from http://aaastream.com/, then install: System > Add-ons > Install from zip file.

6.6 Once Phoenix and AAA stream are installed, locate Live TV channel streams within these plugins (Staael2014 in Phoenix has several; in AAA you will have to dig around a bit for good streams)

6.7 Manually locate streams for channels which are broken in FTV Guide. Add these channels to your favourites from the context (right-click or 'c' shortcut) menu and then re-map them in FTV Guide as per Step 4.7.

Cool guide. Will try it myself now. For those who are on the fence, Sky Sports shows all Cricket and Rugby World Cup and Super Rugby games. And these particular Sky sports streams on Phoenix are really good quality. Even on my 2mb line they usually run without a hitch.

Thanks for the guide!

No TR Total Installer in the list of add-ons.

Edit:

Ok, TR Total Installer added by installing SuperRepo.

My pleasure! I have taken your edits into account, thanks. I have managed to get nearly ALL the channels working in FTV Guide now. I have updated the entire guide with additional instructions (all UK an US channels working, including sport channels). Feel free to give more feedback as to whether the updated instructions work for you.

Maybe you could post you xml config for FTV guide, that would save all the manual remapping of the channels?

I can, unfortunately, only do that on Friday (lots of unrelated deadlines). Also, I am still discovering for myself which streams tend to go down a lot or are rubbish quality. In all likelihood, I will have to keep updating the XML config.

It would probably be more effective if we collectively maintain a config XML.

Hi Edwe

I managed to get I stream added. However, everything I go into is empty. Am I missing something? Eg I go into a movie, and when I click on it there is nothing. Am I missing a step

Are you referring to the iStream plug-in? I've never used that, so I don't know. I know a lot of the streams on AAA stream and Phoenix are broken/empty. I've been spending a lot of time searching for the ones which do work. The streams on http://file.xbmcmxtv.com/super1.m3u (use with PVR IPTV Simple Client ) are mostly working, as far as I know.

Okay thanks. I'll redo the tutorial from scratch and see what happens. Will feedback later

Great, thanks. I've reshuffled the tutorial a bit and added/removed steps. Sorry about that, but I am also still figuring out better ways to combine the plugins. I will at least commit to not to changing the existing tutorial steps again, unless they are incorrect or become outdated.

Thanks! That is awesome! I've installed the Kodi app on my tablet (Nexus 10) and followed your instructions!
Works a treat! Thanks.
One question - I see in the one screenshot you have Sky Sports - where about would I find that? Been hunting but can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks!

VIPLEAGUE.SE

Like simm_card said, try Staael2014 under Phoenix. Sometimes his feed of Sky Sports 1 doesn't work, so I prefer to use one I tracked down in AAA stream (can't remember exactly where though, sorry). Once you find one, open the right-click context menu and add to favourites. Then you can map that favourite to the correct channel in FTV Guide.

AAA Stream didn't came up when searched but I downloaded it from: http://aaastream.com/
Then install: System > Add-ons > Install from zip file

Thank you for the feedback; fixed!

Hi Edwe,

I see you got the PVR add on, I presume you can watch 1 and record 1 and if so, what ADSL package do you use and how is the performance?

Got everything to work except Ftv guide. I followed the steps, but where do I find this Ftv guide?
