I moved my line to afrihost thinking that they would give me better service than telkom.

Then Telkom installed (still unlit) fibre onto the access pole and next moment my adsl is terrible and loses sync every couple of seconds.
Logged a ticket with afrihost, day later I was notified that they logged me a fault with Telkom.

Telkom 5 days later reset the port and closed the ticket. Now I am not getting any reponse from Telkom cause the line is not their issue. And Afrihost simply do not respond to my ticket. From bad to worse service.

I have no line, afrihost couldn't care, telkom couldn't care. It is bad enough having to deal with telkom, now I have to deal with Afrihost too

I don't think I will ever change from Telkom, I'm on simple plus and I get full 4mb speeds any time of the day.

Don't move the line - ever

Sorry to hear how you got screwed with the line by the new management. As the @Sameer786 have stated, most of us on here will complain about Telkom a lot, but they are still better to deal with the management of your ADSL line than the other ISPs. My 10 Mbps line has been quite good and stable since the switch a month ago from 4 Mbps and Telkom's new fixed line chat service worked a treat for me the couple of times I've used it. My last speed test: 10 Meg TI Line :D

Had my line with an isp before many moons ago, never again.

Decided to keep my line with Telkom, I first had a 2Mbs and then I upgraded to 4Mbs, I used their chat service, upgrade took place within 8 hours. Link rate is always been 4096, always..I never transfer my line to ISP and don't think will ever do. I don't know why they say they manage it if they still have to deal with Telkom.

My line has been with Afrihost for years now. Never had an issue with them. On two or three occasions I've needed a Telkom techie to fix a problem, and I called Telkom directly to organise it. On all occasions they were at my door within 48 hours. The Clientzone benefits alone are worth keeping your line with AH.

Afternoon!

That definitely sounds like we weren't being proactive enough with your ADSL fault.

Can I ask that you please send me a PM with your ADSL line number as well as your Ticket Reference number so that I can follow-up on this for you.

If there is a isp that offers you unshaped, untrottled speeds through out the day than change from telkom. But till that happens don't make that mistake by changing. I download torrents online with telkom and still do gaming at the same time with zero lag, that's how good telkom is.

Move line to AH, but when there is a line problem call telkom, not AH.

I have responded to AfriGenie with the details requested, I hope to be able to update this thread with a "happy ever after" ending.

Maybe I was just unfortunate

um... afrihost business line?? i can easily do over 200gb a month on a 1mb business line through afrihost.. never had problems and my line is managed by them.

Pretty sure Telkom throttles torrents, was a huge fiasco about it on the forums at one point.

OP's problem is with the management of the ADSL LINE not Afrihost as an ISP.

During the day, yes.

However the OP is upset with the LINE not the ISP.

I was replying to him specifically and not the OP.
@OP I usually manage to bypass afrihost when logging line faults np, even if my line is with them. Strange that Telkom made an issue of it.

The afrihost website states "We deal with Telkom on your behalf for all DSL related issues". I thought they might even have some preferred telkom techies that could actually solve issues.

As per usual the telkom technician tried to convince me that I am an idiot, that the ISP was throttling me etc. Then proceeded to reset the port, line synced full speed. He proclaimed the line was fixed and closed the ticket. The connection lasted a coule of minutes, then dropped again. But by then the call was closed and neither telkom nor afrihost responded to the complaints that my line is still not working.

Thanks for the feedback Johnatan56. I was not aware that I could go directly to Telkom. I will do so going forward.

Seems like Afrihost do not add any value to the equation (apart from the cheaper line rental).

Yeah, though sometimes it is nice when they can give extra feedback on how your line fault is doing. At one point they even added my comment to the line fault for me, finally having a techie come fix it, every other time I had to explain and then waste so much time that they could never finish their job without meeting their quota. They would just pack up and leave, closing the fault.

Also, after a week of downtime, you can request the month free, just keep the reference numbers handy. You can still ask for downtime to be subtracted from your months payment.

Telkom doesn't lower torrent speeds for me. They work fine any part of the day.

Not for me, I get 400kbps download speed any part of the day, long as there is enough seeds on the torrent.

Afrihost adds a lot of value. The rental is cheaper, you can reset your own port, resync your line and check your line stats in the Clientzone.
