A man has been arrested for allegedly vandalising the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhi Square, central Johannesburg, according to Gauteng police.

The 21-year-old was arrested on Saturday afternoon after a police car drove past and saw the man with white paint, said police spokesperson Kay Makhubele.

“He was found while painting the statue with a 5 litre paint [bucket] and also there were some boards, on which he wrote ‘Gandhi statue must go’,” he said.

The man apparently covered the statue plaques with white paint and was making his way up the body of the statue when police apprehended him.

He was set to appear for malicious damage to property in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Statue vandalism has become as popular as train surfing it seems.

Go to sleep rodent. Eks seems like a big name the last month but I don't have the time to read all the crap to know why. I do feel offended with all eks's backlash that you call me eks. I get that much from eks. But I live in Broadacres. You live or work in Fourways. I can prove I'm not eks? Only 10 minutes...

Nobody cares. Nobody. Now go read the link you requested.

I did. You just a name-calling coward

You want to compare a war zone to a demoracy. Do you believe everything you read even though it's propoganda?

Here goes: Hamster is a joker/scammer/w@nker and likely a female living on the moon.

I'm just quoting this for future reference next time somebody asks me for an example of irony.

But seriously you are trying too hard this time.

I've read all of your posts. I try hard not to post when you type on your keyboard. Calling yourself a hamster opens you up to being a rodent. Read my edit.

I realise this is a bit o/t but can anyone explain why journalists do this:

Cape Town - A man has been arrested for allegedly vandalising the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhi Square, central Johannesburg, according to Gauteng police.

the incident took place in Johannesburg and the journalist starts the article off with "Cape Town -" which is seemingly completely irrelevant and pointless. Jenna Etheridge might as well have written the article 100m underneath polar ice and while perhaps interesting and remarkable in a different discussion it would still be irrelevant to the article itself.

They are basically saying they are not really there where the incident took place so the whole article is based on hearsay and plagiarism?

Don't take the contents of the article as truth!
