New Vodacom shipping container base stations

Great idea.

Just a pity this innovation isn't shown in their package pricing and package offers.

Will electricity come from the nearest lampost using a 3 core 1,5mm cable?

I think few criminals would actually risk it being in the middle of a township like that. There's nothing worse than an angry mob except maybe an angry mob that doesn't have mobile data!

The theft does concern me. All it takes is to drive up with vodafone-red-coloured truck, load the container onto the flatbed (dress your crooks to look "official" with a hard hat and clipboard) and drive off slowly and calmly to the chopshop of their choice.

But what happens when the owner of the container decides to remove it or relocate to another place? Unless Vodacom part-owns the said containers or something?

I'm amazed that this is seen as an innovation. In 2000 we ran our GPRS trial network from a container. We demo'd it at Gallagher, then parked it at MTN to show corporate customers and run training - well before it went live on the larger network. In 2009, when I was at Huawei, we parked our working LTE container at Vodacom to showcase the speeds and applications.

You didn't get mentioned on MyBB at the time. Whoever gets mentioned first, wins the prize.

Watch, they're probably going to steal parts of the actual container for scrap metal, after cleaning out the innards

Cool idea though!

Vodacom can open tin foil hat stores next to the containers for some extra cash..

I heard that during their soft-launch, mealies next to the mobile base stations grew twice the size. In fact, if you don't harvest them soon enough, there is popcorn everywhere

put bright stickers with "no to xenophobia "on the side of the container
