Load shedding wipes out MTN data centre

Wasn't Eskom

Load shedding in Gallo Manor kicked off at 17h01 yesterday and stopped at around 18h25. So this spike wasn't Eskom. Did MTN do something strange with one of their generators?

WTF is up with MTN's DC designers?

I seem to recall they quite regularly have issues with the generators and stuff going down.

Didn't Eskom say at some point that load shedding doesn't lead to power spikes? :p

I would be scared to host anything in their Data centre given the history over the last 2 to 3 years. Load shedding is a given in South Africa. Failure of generators taking over is not acceptable. Why did equipment fail as it should have been on good quality UPS feeds, that should not allow surges or spikes to pass through when power fails or is restored.

I feel like posting the article corrections thread because load shedding didn't wipe out the MTN data centre, MTNs equipment failure did.

Is anyone still having issues with MTN? Our connection to that side is up and down.

I thought the issue was lack of cooling while running for a longer than expected period on UPS?

Can also be that... must get rather hot quickly in such a large data center without any aircons...

maybe they should relocate to the south pole? :D
