hey Guys,

Sorry to create a brand new thread for this, but it's rather urgent.
Telkom just moved my line from the ADSL profile to VDSL, so naturally the internet dropped.
I'm trying to figure out the correct settings for the VDSL connection. Can anyone assist?
I'm working from home today so I need internet urgently

Thanks!

Hi and sorry for Hi-jacking this thread.

I almost started a new one for help, but I see the title is the same question that I wanted to ask.

Can one help me setup my VDSL connection? Tried going through new Quick start inthe Billion router and chose PTM and then follow the next step in entering my username and pass word...but thats it? Its stays in Please wait for your configuration to complete and nothing happens.

I should have a VDSL profile for the 20Mbps...

just do the setup manually and make sure you put value 0 for 802.1P Priority and 835 for 802.1Q VLAN ID

Hi I actually did out those figures in, and nothing happens, it still shows, unconfigured.

Also, my line is a bit....unstable?? At one point the SNR drops below 0 and then disconnects, then it would reconnect but syncs at 16Mbps. But then SNR raises to roughly 11~20db...fluctuates a lot.

As for my Attenuation, it stays around 14db.
Could it be the line that's faulty? Or am I just not good enough for VDSL? Never had a problem with 10Mbps.
Oh and I even unplugged all the micro ADSL filter to make sure there isn't any interruptions, still no luck, it still disconnects every now and then, sometimes under a minute.

Ok, to show you how badly my line does...
Downstream SNR fluctuates alot....Upstream stays quite constant...

Disconnects and few seconds later

And few minutes later (Hardly longer than 2min) Disconnects then reconnects itself

Back to normal I guess??? then about 1 min and 30 secs it disconnects again

its just the Downstream SNR thats going all over the place...and DC again.

same thing...

Now this one stays around 18mbps?? for ADSL2+?

Is the router trying to find the optimum speed or what?

Now after a record breaking time for me of 20min...

Mode ADSL_2plus
Traffic Type ATM
Status Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 18.8 13.4
Attenuation (dB) 11.5 7.4
Output Power (dBm) 18.9 12.0
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 26184 1292
Rate (Kbps) 18107 1021

Hey guys...

Telkom upgraded my ADSL line from 10MB to 20MB VDSL profile...I have the Billion 8800NXL VDSL/ADSL 2+ router...

Can you help with the settings for Billion 8800NXL to setup up VDSL?

Thanks

Hi

Welcome to the VDSL club.

Once Telkom has finished switching you to VDSL modulation on their side.
Its quite simple with the setup, all you need to do is plug and play.

IF that didn't work then...

Quick Start -> Layer2 Interface: PTM -> Input your username and password from ISP and next step. It should start working now.

and IF that still doesn't work then....

Configuration -> WAN -> Edit the PTM interface -> set 802.1P Priority to 0 and set 802.1Q VLAN ID to 835 -> Apply.

That should work now.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply but yes, I had that problem too. When using Speedtest I'm getting VDSL speed, but it doesn't mean Telkom has moved you to VDSL modulation yet. So wait a few days and try it again.

If you're getting VDSL speed on ATM profile, your connection won't be stable so have to be patient.

ok TelkomZA sorted my line out and its connecting via PTM/VDSL, yay

Mode VDSL2
Traffic Type PTM
Status Up
Link Power State L0
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 30.8 33.1
Attenuation (dB) 0.0 0.0
Output Power (dBm) 13.6 -4.4
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 92220 19266
Rate (Kbps) 20476 2047

quick note though on the SNR and Attenuation, is the lower/higher the better or what does it mean? Since I see those terms bought up every now and then regarding modems.

Lol what's the Adsl rental u pay for 40m?

Currently I'm paying R190 line + R500vdsl to telkom

Hi guys

Yesterday I moved my line to AH, 20Mbps VDSL.
Ever since I can't sync to my line whatsoever.

When I reset the device via the router interface or holding down the actually reset button on the router, it doesn't reset me to factory default?

For some reason in the status screen, under WAN. It still shows I'm on PTM traffic type and my line rate. Etc...shouldn't it be blank??

Even if I deleted the PTM profile, and setup ATM, it doesn't change anything.

I'm out of connection for past day now, its getting frustrating.

What can I do to fully reset the device to proper factory default???

ATM is for ADSL2+ and PTM is for VDSL.
If AH have you on the right (VDSL) profile you'll see the following under Status --> Statistics --> xDSL
- Mode = VDSL2
- Traffic Type = PTM

You'll also note under Status --> WAN
All defined connections will be listed. The PTM connection should be connected. The ATM connection should say Unconfigured.

If you don't have this then they've messed you around as they did me. They had me on ATM and insisted it was ok.
Long story short - lost my cool and they miraculously were able to change the profile.

BTW - did you set the 802.1P Priority to 0 and 802.1Q VLAN ID to 835?
If not then do that for the PTM connection.

Yeah I was on those setting before I migrate to AH and it was running flawlessly.

After constant emailing and contacting with Afriman....he told me they somehow can't access line configuration, even though I went to Telkom today to check who is hosting my line, they said my service provider is AH, and unfortunately Telkom don't have control over the line now because its been migrated to AH...

Right now I don't know who is in control of my line...
AH has logged a fault to with Telkom to check the problem, and Telkom said they will probably check the exchange and see if there's a problem or not.

Ag, I don't know.

Your line now gets cut off when moving to and from other providers. Been like that since 19 June.
