Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist epic science-fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. Lang and his wife Thea von Harbou wrote the silent film, which starred Brigitte Helm, Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. Erich Pommer produced it in the Babelsberg Studios for Universum Film A.G.. It is regarded as a pioneering work of the science-fiction genre in movies, being among the first feature length movies of the genre.

Yea I'm sitting this one out as well, my wife will kick me out of bed if I try to get her to sit through it.
 
As mentioned before: Downloaded it and "clicked/jumped" through a couple of minutes on my laptop.

Ai okay... maybe I should put this on my phone at least and watch it even if it's a bit of a disservice to the movie.
 
Unfortunately I still don't have the Internet at home :( I actually thought I had a copy but I have a movie called Metropolitan..

Since we have such low interest in this, anyone want to suggest a fun movie we can watch together in the interim before 'Ran'?
 
wtf? I did the homework, sir...make these guys do laps.

...well, I did half the homework. Jozi Craft Beer Festival wrecked most of Saturday and Sunday :p
 
Sorry for the delay considering that this was my suggestion :o. Anyway saw it today and can see why it is so highly regarded, especially for it's time. So many images and motifs have been re-used by other movies over the years, so many small scenes in other movies can be seen as paying homage to this first science fiction movie.

Difficult to give a score for this, it's fascinating to watch the effects and a huge amount of appreciation given on how hard they must have been to achieve in 1927. The plot has a few twists and turns but the silent movie part means that dialog is very sparse, performances seem to be much more thematic and "overdone" as the actors need to be able to portray an emotion without speech. In terms of the my review I would say that, as a product of it's time and as a forerunner of so many great ideas I would give it 5/5. In terms of it's effect on me now in terms of the type of movie, I would give it 4/5. Not easy viewing by any means but certainly a worthwhile exercise.

p.s - The open, un-gated lifts in the nice homes give me chills, read too many stories about real life lift accidents.

This basically sums up how I felt about it, too. Got a proper copy to watch finally.

A real classic, in the proper sense of the word.
