Fibre-to-the-home for more Gauteng suburbs

Nice initiative but

There are 1500-3000 houses in that area, and 70 people participated in survey.

Again I said there is no interest for FTTH in SA or people are not educated enough to know what you can use it for.

Its probably a mix of both. Those who are ignorant or don't need it are there. But if you also look at some of the offerings and promotions going on the service providers aren't doing a great job on their deals either.

With the exception of Vodacom in my area who has made the attempt at least to visit the site, put up banners and hand out brochures etc... One is not even aware of these offerings/questionnaires at all. Or people just look at the price, as that is all that matters, and go WTF I'm not interested....

Afraid not. They might be bidding but like every FTTH provider there is no infrastructure yet :(

Vodacom for instance are trying to get sign up in our area in Lonehill, but they aren't reaching their target. Simply because it is too farkin expensive.

Same thing happened with us and Vodacom. I think the 24 month contracts scare everyone off :p They say prices will come down but who knows with them

This is probably it. Most people don't even know when a provider is in their area unless it's through residents associations. Service providers are doing a k@k job of waiting for people to sign up. That's business failure 101. They should be advertising themselves and hand out fliers in every area they want to be active in.
