Telkom FLLA Issue

I recently moved to Port Elizabeth.

The area where I stay has no ADSL infrastructure.

Telkom offered me their Fixed Line Look-Alike solution which comprises a 3G modem/router connected
to a handset. This provides an adequate albeit more expensive alternative to ADSL.

However, I have recently discovered that data usage appears to be MUCH heavier using Telkom's FLLA than other
3G based Internet usage (e.g. my daughter's Vodacom dongle)

A 15 minute surfing session on FLLA (email, News24 and some Facebook) uses between 300 and 500 Mb of data!

A similar session on Vodacom 3G uses about 60Mb!

Can anyone throw some light on this issue please?

Facebook uses a lot If data.

What browser are you using?

Are windows updates enabled or disabled. If enabled every time you connect to the net windows update will automatically download current patches

How it split downloads vs. uploads on both connections? Check firewall settings on your router (if any) and on PC.
The only difference is that Telkom apn is unrestricted, it might trigger unwanted traffic when access to your computer from outside is open to everybody. It can be big difference when you access streaming Web sites like News24.

I would also check for active torrents, rootkit infection and trojans.

Sounds highly irregular for just browsing.
Something sinister might be eating it up or else your pc download some updates while you were on.

Checkout CellC, they have good coverage around PE and great speeds.
