Free copy of Windows 10 for testers explained

I don't see the point, those Windows Insiders are probably running Windows 7 and up so they'll get the free upgrade.

So stay as an Insider and score Windows 10 for free?

I was hoping Microsoft would have some kind of way a user could upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, from Windows 7 Home Premium, if they are able to provide a genuine Windows 8.1 Pro key (which I have). Looks like I will have to upgrade to Windows 8, then Windows 8.1, and then Windows 10 when it launches :(

I know an upgrade from Windows 7 to 8.1 would mean I will lose my installed software :( I don't want to have Windows 10 Insider Preview running on my main laptop.

So if Im running windows 10 now, I can keep my current install and just keep running, not like win 7 testing?

Microsoft has been kind of lenient lately. I remember even getting a free license for Office 2013 H&B the time it launched. I guess it's necessary when you have been milking people for decades

Yes as long as you stay an insider. Else you will have to install 7/8 & upgrade.

Microsoft has been releasing a lot of confusion and then clarifying it lately.
